Default 757-2 B/F Rest Seat Grievance Lost

Another great win for the union and those pilots directly involved.

Even though the contract is Black & White, it turns out that the Arbitrators ruled in favor of the company citing "intent at the negotiation tables on 1 Aug".

So basically, everything that is in our JCBA is now up for interpretation if the company so deems~

And the hits just keep on coming.

PS> The new 'BAT' for the (LCAL) 756 BES and the (LUAL) 76T category basically allows the company to displace pilots between the two without actually having a Displacement! And our union agreed to it~

what grievance was that? As for the BAT, I like it. It is a win/win for company and pilots. The 757/767 fleet should be and will be 1 fleet. Until then, BAT is the closest thing to one fleet there is. JMO.

Sure come on over. I'll switch with you. You can have my jepps and 50lb bag to haul around as well.

I'll wait to see how the BAT is but if it's anything that was negotiated I guarantee it will be worse than expected.
Recent J/S grievance comes to mind,

Additionally....if there is a net gain or loss in manpower within a base (756 + 76T), a vacancy or displacement is still required. If not, then BAT can be used to shuffle the fleet within the base. Well thought out, IMO.

Can someone summarize the issue please? Crew rest affects us all, and companies tend to copy, saying "Hey, the guys at United do fine with their crew rest, why can't you?"

5-J Crew Rest Facilities
5-J-1 When augmentation is required, allowable crew rest facilities are:
. . .

5-J-1-h For 757-200 aircraft equipped with lie-flat seats, one (1) premium lie-flat window seat. The adjacent aisle seat shall be the last seat assigned on the aircraft.

The company interpreted this as the last assigned seat in B/F, not the last assigned seat on the entire aircraft. I'm not privy to this particular grievance but I suspect this is one of those examples of negotiator's notes providing context beyond the final language.

Sorry to burst a bubble, but isn't that how it has always worked under the RLA as the company is responsible for administering the contract?

As one who might be affected by the BAT in the future, what s life on reserve for a 76T fo in iah like? Only IAH trips or DH to other bases to cover their flying as well?
Any W trips from other bases in the monthly bid?
From what I could tell on the nov bid award IAH 76T only does LHR, GRU, EZE and LIM, no 75 flying?

Thanks

I am not on reserve, however, the contract spells out rsv assignments in other bases and I can tell you that it does not happen often if ever nowadays with the abundance of rsv coverage in the other bases. As for destinations, you are correct. LHR, GRU, LIM, EZE....however, the Dec bids have some domestic and 757 flying.

Thanks for the info jsled,

I didn't mean to DH and seat reserve in another base,
They do it sometimes with iah and ewr, when ewr has lots of open trips and not many reserves for a specific day, they would take an ewr trip add an iah-ewr DH at the front and an ewr-iah DH a the back and basically make it an iah trip.
