Default 787 Captain numbers

So we have 7 shiny new 78's. And after this vacancy bid is trained, we will have 119 Captains. Gee, that is......17 Captains per airplane!!

I could be wrong, but I though we weren't getting any more Sparky's until the 900 comes out late next year.

How many of those 119 are scabs? Serious question, I had heard that they were flocking to that jet. Maybe instead of "Sparky", it's the "Scab-Wagon"!

With FAR117 requirements, W-pairings, and forecast retirements the company may be hedging their manpower bets. I don't think anyone will be surprised to see management squander any inherent efficiency that the aircraft offers.

Lagos, batteries that run hotter than Sophia Loren, and scabs. The 737 doesn't look so bad now.

Low cost carriers run 5 crews per aircraft. I believe UAL widebodies are 6-7 per aircraft. 17 per aircraft is criminal unless there are 7 more coming in the next 4 months.

Like I said, last I heard we weren't taking any more new ones until the end of next year.

My guess is that they are getting ahead of the retirement numbers. I would expect the 747 Ord base will be staffed similarly.

I hope the 747 is staffed fat with Captains along with the 787. This has the effect of moving everyone up. Why is this bad?

The goal is to fully staff for the 65 787 on order (25 CAL 40 UAL) by the time the fence drops so that no LUAL pilots can bid into the seats.

The current staffing for November is at 7.7 Captains per aircraft. I can't speak for the bid.
