Not directed at any specific post but rather for everybody's benefit in the future, note that the UPA specifically permits a UAL pilot to jumpseat on a weight-restricted flight. (FWIW, this was carried over from the L-UAL contract.)
And yes, I have seen a revenue passenger removed with compensation to put a jumpseater onboard.
21-J-4 A United Airlines Pilot shall be allowed to travel on jumpseat authority and occupy the cockpit jumpseat(s) on a weight restricted flight.

I'm in the right seat, but I still do all I can to let help out a somebody trying to commute.
Step 1. Try to greet the person in the departure lounge, and let him/her know that we're aware of the situation.
Step 2. Let the CA and agent know about the commuter.
Step 3. 10-15 prior, go back to the departure lounge to ensure nobody is left behind. If it can't be avoided, I'll apologize, and explain why.
Most CA's will try their best to get a commuter on, even if they themselves don't commute. The handful of times I've had a CA who doesn't care, it's always the REALLY senior people who don't commute, and say that commuting is a choice.

Read the FOM jumpseat reference guide. The CSR must bump a revenue passenger in order to accommodate a second United pilot jumpseater. This is an interim measure until the second jumpseat is installed in heavy maintenance (as req'd by the UPA). Yes...I know we are parking them before the heavy mx...hence the FOM stop gap.

Don't jump on me Axl, your guy started it with dissin' our 737s. Yes, I know about the 757 FOM reference and was very happy to see that in there (only for UAL pilots though). I would be curious to know why our JNC (if true) didn't want the same for the 737's, but I have to say I've sat in the second jumpseat of a 737 and it's not comfy, but beats walkin'.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it applies to LUAL & LCAL pilots. The requirement to bump revenue pax would make it tough to extend to non UAL pilots...it would be nice though.

I've got a message out to members on both teams to see if this is a fact or just another slam...
