Default United Recalls 600 Pilots.

So step one post ISL has begun.

United recalls 600 furloughed pilots

From staff report September 5, 2013 9:44AM

United Airlines announced Thursday it will recall nearly 600 pilots on furlough to meet staffing needs. The Chicago-based airlines said no United pilots will remain on furlough after the recall.
“We look forward to welcoming back our co-workers as we complete work to integrate all of our pilots into a single work group,” United’s senior vice president of flight operations Howard Attarian said in a statement. “We are pleased to have this group of talented aviators back on our team. They are among the most experienced and most accomplished in the industry.”

Training classes for the recalled pilots will begin in October and run through the end of the year. United has more than 12,000 pilots.

Well, if most guys are like me, we're not doing cartwheels. Hired 13+ years ago to what was my dream job, told by orientation staff we just "won the lottery". Then to see my job being done by 3 or 4 RJ pilots (who my union also represents) while simultaneously getting kicked in the nads by this SLI. Yeah, recalled, awesome.

Maybe they were referring to the Shirley Jackson novel "The Lottery".

Do you remember what happened to the people that won that "lottery"?

As a 3/2000 hire (resigned in 2007) my relative seniority would have lost 2%.

After 13.5 years seniority goes from 90% to 92%.

Still....not as bad as I was expecting.

Good luck to all of you in the future.

The bigger story will likely be the acceptance ratio.

Exactly, what if we get 100%? We have 600 positions to fill over the next 4 months? Even if they expect 1/3 that's still 200 positions that aren't filled and need filling which seems to me to be a "big deal".

What do you guys think the initial acceptance will be. If you do the math on this will a recall pilot really be ready for training in early October?
