Without guessing, I'll ask what part of the process was a disservice. The UAL MEC was at odds throughout this process with the CAL MEC to achieve a reasonable JCBA and SLI. The delays and constant overreaching by the CAL MEC falls on the back of one person, JP.
The process was fine. The arbitrator's report lays out the LCAL strategic missteps pretty well. The disservice would be from KATZ & RANZMAN, PLLC. "The CAL proposal .... it omits category ... and ... It also excludes longevity ..." (p 12). Well, that's two-thirds of ALPA merger policy. Unbelievable.

Jimmy,

Here is what I think you will see:

1. 21 days vacation and UAL sick bank restored
2. 6th year pay around $117 till Jan 1st 2014
3. 6th year pay around $128 till late Feb 2014 (new longevity date)
4. 7th year pay around $131 in March 2014

Nobody has clear answers but this is my understanding of it

My methodology was to use active pilots in 2010... no furloughs counted on either side. For my present position I used the same pilots I used in 2010 minus retirements. 2010: 54% on CAL list. Today: 61% on combined list (not including the pilots without positions in May of 2010). 2010 projected retirement 8%. Today's projected retirement 12%. Merged in with pilots hired at UAL a year and a half before I went to work at CAL. I suppose they're as ticked off about that as I am about my loss of seniority and retirement percentage. Doesn't two ticked off sides define a "fair" integration?

Very true, Todd! While I'm not happy with the SLI outcome, I don't blame UALALPA or the arbitration board. We (CALALPA) have only ourselves (and Katz' law firm) to blame. Time to move on.

The real enemy is the crappy airline we have become and the true battle is to run the best operation on the planet and to get ready for the next contract.
Agree with you but let's all, take the sunglasses off... this unity/become one....is a smoke screen. Both sides have used and continue to use this smokescreen.. If unity is so important to our being a strong group, then why is The UA MEC disputing the 787 fence ( this is not individuals) but our soon to be governing body within ALPA. Why is the UA MEC Petitioning the company to make DOH instead of seniority for the jumpseat...to advantage mostly L-UA pilots at the expense of pilot more senior as determined by the awarded arbitration list. I believe both CAL and UAL used seniority to determine jumpseat. Why the change now...If union leaders, can't do what's right for this new group, after the deep scars of the JCBA and ISL battle and now a binding arbitration decision, then there' s no way we will unify and move on...

I agree. I can handle the new list "it is what it is" but now the UAL mec is just going for broke. They want it all. If they had it their way cal would just be stapled at the bottom. And they won't stop till they get as close to that as they can. F'em I'm done with that group. Unity... Not going to find it here.

The irony and hypocrisy is killing me! The only place I've heard of any legal challenge to the 787 fence is on this (& maybe another) forum - so I can't speak as if it's fact. What IS fact is the record and actions of YOUR MEC and MC. THEY 'wanted it all', if THEY had their way almost 3000 LUAL pilots would be 'stapled to the bottom', and THEY NEVER STOPPED! So tell me -- WHO went for broke??

There were many reasonable voices warning the LCAL pilots about the consequences of their scorched earth tactics. It appears the chickens have come home to roost. I'm not advocating retribution, I'm just pointing out human nature. Unlike your pilot group, I'm guessing the LUAL pilots will actively oppose unilateral, damaging acts by our ALPA leaders. It's called principle. It's called unionism.

So many UAL guys don't realize it, but this award in soooo many ways, ignores the precedent of past, and sets new ground for the future ... Without the policy change, this award never ever would have looked this way ... go review history ... Rarely have furloughed pilots been placed above active pilots ... Extremely rare in the history of arbitrations ... And the hybrid methodology has never been used ... This will haunt all of us again sometime in the future.
Baloney...

FWIW the LCAL MEC has been operating in that mode for 3 YEARS. At every turn there has been wrangling and maneuvering at the expense of the other side. Don't agree?? See pay banding argument 3 years ago, profit sharing grievance win by LUAL in the middle, and the LCAL RIDICULOUS seniority proposal at the end. And you know what? I've endured all that and still hope for unity in the future for all of us because THAT is what serves us best.

That being said, I don't like the maneuvers out if my MEC on the 787 or Jumpseat any more than I liked the precious 3 years from the other side

I've read it. And PUH-LEASE. You and I must live on different planets. The list went very close to straight relative seniority for about 11,000 of 12,000 pilots. That's a WIN for LCAL based on overall longevity and number of total pilots and widebodies. I'm .2% different on the final list, and due to the 787 fence (which I hope stands.... See other posts) I'm going to get CRUSHED on the west coast. So I'm not sure how much "enjoying" I'm going to do. But I'm not going to be a baby about it!!
