So, what happens if ISL is delayed from implementation? For how long? one scenario...Old United 752s getting parked with a lot of furloughs and new hires at bottom of list. With a net reduction of planes without the company given the ability to capture one pilot group could be ugly. Plus the plan to train United north on the beloved guppy this fall may not happen if no ISL. You think the company will let 739s sit while the unions figure it out? That is right, they won't. Don't want to hear any united guy complain that CAL caused this.
Btw...I believe this doesn't have real traction to do anything. The lawyers will get the most $$$ to only have this shot down.

IF this thing goes to court and somehow delays implementation (or even issuance) of the ISL, you will still see those 73's still show up and a small amount of LUAL Pilots trained on them.
Hell, all management would have to do is grow SFO and turn it into a largely LUAL 73 operation.
It is very feasible.
As far as the lawsuit having any merit.. well, that's up in the air (no pun intended). We have all seen certain lawsuits and cases go nowhere and also some take off running.
My concern is - how does it affect the SLI issue and does it open Pandora's box more?!
Never a dull moment around here! lol

We are going to find out.....
But I don't think anything will happen quickly. People will see how things shake out, and with the crazy number of retirements there isn't going to be any urgency to do anything.
Remember the 767 and Airbus FO bids in IAH went unfilled on the first bid.

Agreed!
I can only comment on the dozen or so LUAL guys from my old squadron. A few fly the A320/76 out of JFK. A few others fly the 777 out of IAD. A few others are on mil leave and the last three are on Furlough (one Vol, the other two InVol).
They all (except for one) live locally. NY, NJ, PA and CT.
I bet they will all take a 777 FO out of EWR given the chance!
But.. the question becomes, when will they be able to bid and train, or just move..
That is the $64000 question.

Actually, I'll take that bet!
Yes, there are many LUAL Pilots who would like to get back into the NYC Base.
They are pilots flying widebodies who were displaced and now commute to either IAD or ORD.
Why would you think that there are no LUAL pilots wanting to fly out of NYC. JFK and NYC use to be a bigger base than it is now.
As far as IAH, I don't know. But I would imagine that there will be some LUAL Pilots who live in Texas who might want to take a IAH bid..

Yeah.....except ya'll are enjoying the movement caused by the merger. There are 190+ 737 departures per day just out of DEN, LAX, and ORD this month. All staffed by l-CAL. Do you think THAT would have happened if not for the merger? I'd say it worked out pretty well for ya. I'm looking forward to getting in on some of that.
Dude, wake up!! We had 2005 CAs before the merger. We had huge growth while your United was stagnant and giving routes to EMB 170s. CAL growth has zero to do with your company merger. Z E R O

Simple.. Cost of Living.
I pay 11 grand a year in taxes for my haus. Before that, I paid $1250 a month for rent on a 2 bedroom in Queens.
When you grow up and live here, you get use to it. When you're from somewhere else.. you don't and want to get the hell out of here! LOL
I would bet that in a year from now, when the 73's are at every base.. it will be the junior/newhire aircraft. And I think NYC will still be a junior base!
good night

Actually CAL was moving backwards and furloughing before the merger. That thing you've experienced over the last 3 years was BECAUSE of UAL and the merger.
The "moving backwards" is just going to be the natural ebb of pilots who were able to bid positions outside of their seniority because 100% of the positions were only available to 40% of the pilots.
Can't wait for the list to come out.

Dang this merger stuff is confusing. I'm sure glad you guys post facts on this board so I can try and understand why our airline is so successful and where my career should be and not where I thought it was going. Oh and thanks for getting rid of JP. HE IS THE DEVIL!
