Considering these were CAL delivery slots in the first place, ordered years ago - CAL transferred the delivery over to UAL registration since 737 deliveries are sold out for 36 months - the simplest solution would be to transfer them back to CAL registration prior to delivery.

Problem solved.

You guys did read all the SLI transcripts on how CAL had airplanes on order years before the merger - well these aircraft are part of that order. But instead of CAL growth, we're replacing your "vintage" aircraft.

Now I will say the 757 is a better piece of equipment than a 737-900ER, but Boeing doesn't make them anymore, and there's nothing we can do about that.

That'd be a great solution---if only it were true.

United Airlines ordered 150 Boeing 737s on Thursday, a big win for the jet-maker and a clear sign that the world's largest airline is shifting increasingly toward Boeing planes.

United ordered 50 Boeing's 737-900ERs, which begin arriving late next year. It's also buying 100 new 737 Max 9s, a revamped 737 that is getting new engines and other tweaks to make it more fuel efficient. They start arriving at United in 2018.

We had way more leverage than we used.
There is just no way that UCH is going to ramp up a separate UAL 737 training program; nor can they wait to train more 737 pilots (nor bus pilots); they are probably talking to the Jays about some contractual relief, traded for $s or contract improvements, that will allow them to push more L-UAL pilots, post SLI award, to L-CAL 737 training, and somehow avoid displacement training for those coming off the 757. Since it could be quite a considerable amount of time between SLI award and full operational merger, my guess is that the company is pushing hard for a solution. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent out recall letters to everyone post award for any open position on either side, with L-CAL having 737 openings in almost all old UAL domiciles .... In other words, they will try to end run around the TP&A requirements to not cross train until full operational merger is complete.

That's exactly what I've heard. It's either they get a deal or the planes get parked as soon as they're delivered. That's some decent leverage. I hope the "Jays" do good for us. There are a lot of items in the contract large and small that need some adjustment. It's hard to foresee how a new contract will play out in its application. We have and this is a rare chance to make a course correction a year into it.
