The 737 fleet will be running at max training capacity for the foreseeable future. In addition, with the 737 fleet being the junior aircraft there will almost certainly be "unadvertised" FO vacancies on the 737 fleet as a result of this bid. Going forward the company will not even need to advertise as many FO vacancies on the 737 because that is where they will naturally occur. Ditto for the 320.

But...rumor suggests that the company finally realized the ratio of FO to CA positions is askew and there will be more 737 training slots used for CA training than in the original plan for the first half of 2014.
Which could even be exacerbated by the unadvertised backfills.

Pilot hiring update 1-17-14

There has been a reduction in the projected number of new hires being assigned class dates. We were originally looking at 60 – 100 new hires a month through the first part of the year. We are now looking at the following projected (approximate) numbers (now working off a rolling 90 day forecast):
February 34 March 56 April 70
These numbers are down primarily because we've converted 737 training capacity that was planned for new-hire/recalls to training for active pilots, particularly Captains. Hiring numbers beyond this summer will be dependent on the summer 2015 flying plan.

No surprise here they have the 737 staffing completely jacked up. They have hundreds of FOs in IAH and EWR that are stuck and can't bid out except to go to the 76T in EWR. They keep growing the 737 bases but 76T guys are jumping on the spots. With the 76T fleet shrinking there are no backfills, so this leaves the 737 ranks VERY fat.

Based on this current bid that closes on Sunday, the snap shots have shown a grand total of 7 guppy FOs moving bases out of 200+ vacancies and backfills. EWR 76T had 24 bid off and 11 bid on and there were 75 positions.

What does this mean for new hires? Be ready to fly the 76T out of EWR. I don't see any new hire getting the 737 this spring and maybe not tell fall. 320 positions will be thrown in sporadically to new hires but i would be willing to bet we will see entire classes going to 76T in EWR for the rest of the spring through summer.

34 for February would almost double the current rate
Feb 4 - 8
Feb 11 - 4
That would leave 11 each for
Feb 18
Feb 25
Just happy they are still starting classes.
