Hey do the 737 pilots potentially get paid more than the Airbus guys? I ask because I see the 737-700 and A319 are a lower rate and there are way more A319s than there are -700s. Just curious money-wise which one might be a better choice.

Yes. First year pay is the same but, starting second year, you'll have more pay in the higher pay band on the 737 fleet.

Keep in mind which one you might be able to hold a line quicker (or at least which base will allow you to break guarantee easier). 73 hours as opposed to high 80s makes a pretty big difference. Lots of things to consider.

The blended rate on the Airbus will be slightly lower than the 737 after your first year. Only 40 737-700s in a fleet of approximately 300 737 airframes has little effect on the blended rate. However, the Airbus fleet has about 97 A-320s and 55 A-319s, with more 319s on the way. So that fleets blended rate will be a little lower. But as was mentioned previously, whatever fleet you can be a line holder faster will translate into more $$. Reserve pays a 73 hour guarantee and many times you won't surpass that. A lineholder can easily get over 90 hours of pay credit. So do the math. 73 hours at a slightly higher hourly rate (only a few dollars difference from the 737 to the Bus) is lower than 90 hours at the lower payband.

The Dec 8 class had enormous variation. With 65 of us, they broke us up into 4 teams by seniority (age) to make some of the "onboarding" smoother. Lots of very experienced, and commensurately older pilots in my group, nobody under 40. I didn't have a chance to hear the backgrounds of the other groups but the youngest are in their 20s, there were lots of RJ guys, a few from VX, B6 & Spirit, Cargo, and Mil types. There really was no apparent "United" archetype, from an age/background standpoint.
