FWIW, with PBS, I second to bid what you want. I'm at the bottom of the reserves and had Thanksgiving off to the end of the month. Also, reserve days can be traded so long as coverage is okay. Just bid what you want and live month by month

Really, no one is going to post the drop for the DeC 1st class. Could one of you please put down your beer and post for the rest of us. Thanks in advance!

Only short a handful and seems like they are spacing out these slots... I'd bid 737 and you'll be able to base transfer fairly quickly based on how vacancy bids have been going last 6 months... But be prepared to commute worst case. Base is still growing that fleet.

Not to sidetrack the thread too much, but I'm in EWR now commuting from Pittsburgh. There are a fair amount of flights on smaller planes. However, I was thinking DCA might be better. I'd be able to drive 4hrs, which is close to the time it takes to fly (drive to airport, getting there prior to boarding, flight time, shuttle to the crash pad, etc...) It would be cheaper as well (gas as opposed to crash pad). I'm assuming I'd be able to hold a line (71% as opposed to 96%).

Anyway, I was just surprised not to see DCA in the drop and was wondering why.

It just depends on their needs. But when they are running classes almost weekly, and vacancy bids almost monthly, there will be options.

Not sure if you are in class yet or will be soon, but if you are in a December class, you will be able to bid on this next vacancy bid and I'd venture to guess you will be able to get DCA no problem.

If you are in one of next years classes, they might have DCA, and if not there will most likely be vacancy bids while you are in training that you can bid on and get where you want to go

I'm in EWR now. Sorry, thought that was clear. I was hired in July. Just wondering how different life in DCA would be as opposed to EWR.

Sorry I missed that.
Look at the bid packages and compare the type of flying, your relative seniority and what those guys in that seniority range are getting awarded. You can see that in PBS for the last 2-3 months of awards.
I would drive 4 hours over catching a plane. At least you are in control of your fate, you can leave home and the airport any time you want, you have wheels to get to a hotel if necessary, and your trip selection isn't based on commuting schedule.

After 8 years of commuting (4 years of a double leg commute) I drive just under 3 hours to work since September. I've dropped 10lbs. Wife wants to know why I am happy all the time. Started to run again.

anything that gets you away from being reliant on somebody else to get you to work is definitely worth it!

BTW the time spent sitting at the airport, having a backup, waiting to get home on the weight restricted airplane vs the extra time driving.....you will find you are much happier with the drive.
