Does anyone know how often system bids are typically?
I heard they are "kind of random". Also is there any difference in a system bid and a vacancy bid?
One more; does United do an event during indoc where you bring your spouse like a dinner or a "winging"? I've heard nothing about it so far. Thanks!

With all the advertised hiring over the next year, vacancy bids will likely occur ever few months since unfilled vacancies are required in order to hire new pilots. This year we've seen them every other month or so, interspersed with displacements in certain categories to effect rebalancing. See "Attrition is the Answer" thread for some level-headed discourse on that topic

On the last day of Indoc there is a wing ceremony. Family (including young kids) is welcome to come, however, the instructors didn't say much about it. There were a few families that did come for my class. I would recommend that your family come if at all possible.

It is a considerable accomplishment to make it to United Airlines and I congratulate each and every one of you. You work so hard to get to a certain point in your career and it becomes "normal" to keep grinding away because that is what you are used to.
Take a step back and look at where you are and the road it took to get you here. It is only natural to have your family there to appreciate it as well.....they sacrificed too so it is also a celebration of their contribution to your career as well.....
