My first hand observation is any airline would seem overstaffed compared to CAL whose in an almost constant junior/senior manning scenario with less than min reserves routinely.

Who exactly are the three tenants?

Manny, Moe and Jack?
Curly, Moe and Larry?
Billy, Frank and Dusty?
Everett, Pete and Delmar?
Jeffrey, Walter and Donny?
Don, Martin Luther and Rodney?
David, Stephen and Graham?
Chico, Harpo and Groucho?
Seeno, Hearno and Speakno?
Placido, Jose and Luciano?
Hoss, Little Joe and Adam?
Billy Jo, Mike and Tre?
Emerson, Lake and Palmer?
Eric, Ginger and Jack?
Jimi, Noel and Mitch?

I'm confused.

Look at Southwest. Very similar staffing model. They just send out letters saying they need help from the company and the pilots happily help out for 200%. The pilots want the company to succeed while earning good coin.

I agree and my SWA peers agree except they all say they're properly staffed. I can't find a CAL pilot that thinks we are properly staffed to include the VJM rules.

99.4% completion factor for May. Staffing seems fine to me.

It's an awesome staffing model for the pilot that lives for $$$$, but perhaps less so for the schmuck looking to drop a trip, trade days, or (gasp!) take vacation when the kids are out of school.

Must have been my imagination that almost every CAL pilot I fly or talk with mentions not being staffed properly. You can knock it off...your boy Fred is gone.

It is almost July...training events are cancelled often. Pull up the reserve pools and look around.
