This just doesn't add up... How can there be hiring at UniCal in 2013 then? Don't all the furloughs have to be offered recall before off the street new hire classes begin? It could take a year to get them all in class even if only 50% come back now...

Most are probably waiting to see where their ISL seniority is before they come back.

So if we get an ISL in late August, and the list becomes effective SEP 1, will the LUAL pilots flying at LCAL still be considered furloughed? If they are, will they have to give up the spot they are in, stay where they are flying LCAL equipment are even though some pilots on the street are senior, or will they even be able to bid back to an LUAL flet type before the still on the street furloughs?

Two separate operations. All furloughed UA pilots have been offered a job at CO. 188 pilots have been offered a recall to UA

Doesn't add up! There are 552 that are on sCAL property and some in the schoolhouse (approx 80). There are about 1437 sUAL furloghees in total. Everyone has been offered the call to sCAL. They have started lining up interviews off the street.

Over half of the furloughs are already employed at the merged UAL, most at LCAL and now some at LUAL. There are 450 recent vacancies on the LCAL side to be filled by Feb 2014. Also some furloughs will not return. Once the integrated seniority list is complete there will no longer be a LCAL and a LUAL. All of the above will just be at UAL, free to bid all equipment based on the new seniority list--and most will already be on the property working. So basically by the end of the year, probably well before, all furloughs who desire to be recalled will be on the property working. And there will a good number of off-the-street new hires already underneath the most junior person from either group.

All furloughed UAL pilots have been offered a job flying merged UAL equipment, specifically, on LCAL aircraft. But LUAL pilots are not considered "recalled" because they are not back on LUAL equipment. These formerly furloughed LUAL pilots are flying as "new hires" at LCAL, although they naturally did not have to interview, are paid the higher of LUAL or LCAL pay depending on years of service, and weren't on probation. However without an integrated seniority list they were brought onto LCAL equipment at the bottom of the LCAL seniority list therefore they bid their flying as the most junior pilots at LCAL thus the "new hire" label. The 88 "recalled" pilots are furloughed pilots returning to LUAL equipment, regardless of whether they chose the offer of employment at LCAL or not.

Well stated and explained.
It can be confusing when u read other people's bullet statements. They are technically correct. But this post sums up the situation well.

Chances are that the merger will be "complete" before most of the UAL guys are recalled. There will be no CAL/UAL sides, just one airline. If recalled then, where do they go? Would they go to where the company needs them? So they could get EWR 737? Anyone know how it works after the integration?
