Basil: What's the other?
Austin Powers: Excuse me?
Basil: What's the other thing that scares you?
Austin Powers: Carnies.
Basil: What?
Austin Powers: Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands.

Below is from the UAL Pilots forum. I'm only copying the post here. I can't answer any questions and I do not know more than anyone else
************************************************** ****
************************************************** ****
1) Said company is short 68 airbus F/O's for the summer, thus the reason for the recalls. Once they get the 68 F/O's they'll stop for the summer. Said he is running about 40% on his calls to furloughees and those coming back to the L-UAL side.
2) Said United flight management and ALPA got company to stop their plans to open two new domiciles for the L-CAL fleets while we couldn't bid anything, SFO and I think he said DCA 737. So no new domiciles will open until after ISL. Also said that the last CAL only bid was the one in Jan. The one they normally get in June won't happen.
3) United is interviewing pilots from the pilot pool prior to the furloughs, and expects to start hiring off the street in the Fall. Said planning 30-40/mos starting in Sept after the training center opens again follow summer push. Said they have something like 8000 applications on file already.
4) Revenue management is now running United. Said Pete McDonald no longer has direct line to Smisek, now reports to head of revenue management. New baseline for United is $1 Billion profit per year. Said if we don't make at least that, year was a failure. Said if you place Delta's merger alongside ours, they both seem to line up exactly where both had problems. Thus everyone is expecting the new AA/US Air to have the same problems and we expect to pick off their pax as they did ours. Corporate travel is doing very well getting back customers who fled due to shares. Revenue management is doing a good job keeping planes flying full or not at all. United is now sitting down planes on Tue and Thurs when the demand is less versus flying them empty and losing money. We made over a billion in profit in 2011, would have made over a billion in 2012 if not for Shares debacle and retro payout, and fully expect to make over a billion this year. Wall street investors were asked which airline to invest in this year and United came out on top of Delta, AA, US Air and SWA. Wall St expects us to take off this year after the integration and combination of the pilot groups.
5) Said new hanger being built at IAD is big enough to house 2 787's in it. Said IAD will become a major maintenance hub. Said he wouldn't be surprised to see a 787 base at IAD in the near future. Said a 737 base was definitely coming, and some airbus flying may move away to other bases as the 73 takes on some of that flying (already happening), but still expects a an airbus pilot domicile at IAD.
6) said he's seen quite a few pilots early retiring post JCBA, before the early retirement buyout program has even begun.
7) United and MWAA are still fighting over a new C/D terminal. MWAA wants something shiny and big like a Denver or Pittsburgh airport, United is not wanting to spend that type of money for a Dulles base. Trying to find some middle ground because right now with low cost overhead United makes a lot of money out of IAD. They don't want to lose that with much higher overhead costs, but they also realize they need to get out of the double wide trailer that IAD is right now.
8) Said he is at war with the station manager at DCA. Former CAL person and doesn't do a damn thing over there. Anyone flying out of DCA knows how crappy it is over there, one computer you have to stand up at to do any flight planning in a closet. Said he has taken the issue to higher level to try and get DCA straightened out.
That's all I can remember.

I know Ual won't start off the street interviews for awhile, but would it be beneficial to go to the Women in Aviation conference and get some face time? Has UAL in the past been pretty active as far as remembering you from job fairs? I'm at the bare minimum as far as being competitive so I figure the only way to get noticed out of all the apps is to show up and say hi and personally drop off a resume.
