ARE YOU KIDDING ME? History is just that? What vacuum are you living in 130??? Do you think that "history" will allow those affected in that history to just forget it? Do you think guys hired under you is ANY SAFEGUARD to what the airline managements will pull over on you? Boy have you a hard lesson in the offing pal. You had better listen to those old salts that have been put through the ringer these last 20+ years. They WILL NOT forget what was stolen from them and to think that because there is a new hiring wave forming up that all will be rosy and happy in green pastures.
Your enemy is management... they will fight you, they have outmaneuvered labor for decades. Corporate America has raped the average worker and the middle class. While I commend your excitement, your naivete floors me.

Best of luck to you
UAL resigned

And your bitterness floors me. Granted I agree that history is not just history. I always think of the old saying, "there is nothing new under the sun." Everything that management will try has been tried before, and those who don't know their airline history will be more prone to repeat it. However, you're making the illogical conclusion that just because someone is eager to work at United that they think all will be green pastures and smooth sailing. I'd like to think that we all know better. I know that we can never truly know what you feel because we haven't experienced the same things you have, but my family has been through the Lorenzo years at CAL for what it's worth, and I still have always wanted to be in this industry. Is it naivete? No. It's a love for this industry and the willingness to take part in the fight to save what's left.

Best of luck to you,
Future UAL

agreed! I like to read about the merger on the merger thread to know what's happening within the company, but its nice to keep threads on topic; this one based on street hires.

There will be neglible LUAL pilots returning. 450 are already flying at LCAL and will fall into their new seniority position for bidding which will have no effect on new hires, while the rest are either on long-term mil leave or have bailed completely on the airline industry. All future classes will be true off the street new hires, not bumping you down if you're already here and providing max opportunity for employment if you're not.

130,
Yes things have changed and street hired are back. The SLI completion will allow most to grieve while also giving closure so that we all can press ahead and realize that we need seats filled. Training is busting at the seams and it will be a little worse soon (more
MIA time for many). The new 739 sim still won't help. We could use five more and still be tight. We need at least 300-400 street guys/gals for next year.

Also, stay classy and avoid the top gun hoopla. Your smart enough to see it for what it is.

We will soon find out. Last week's class had 8 pilots but only 1 was a new hire - the remaining were l-UAL.

Default Hiring

I just had one of the Chief Pilots on my jump seat and he told me that next month (Sep), they will have a class of 16 per week indefinitely. There are only about 700-800 furloughed guys left that have deferred...and they only expect 10-20% of those to come back. They are filling classes with street hires, and as they run out of furloughed guys, the ratio of street hires will significantly increase. Good luck all!
