UAL offer street hires classes?

Thanks, Snarge, good post. I have been researching this issue and asking all the questions that I could, but being a mil guy on the outside looking in, it is pretty hard to grasp.
It will be interesting to see how the culture evolves as the merger is completed. I used to think it was all petty and silly, but after talking at length with a retired Capt, I now understand the gravity of it. I think the complete dismantling of the Continental name and the legacy that Lorenzo and his squad left are the best thing that could have happened to that company.

We've read about Lorenzo and know the history, some of us even had the slimeball on our Continental Express ATR flights out of Nantucket/Vineyard. But to us it's as relevant as a white disco suit, and Snarge's attitude will go well with the sharkskin uniform jacket we're about to start wearing. :barf:

If you don't care, then simply ignore this post. There is a valid point, in that get hired, get through training and IOE. But I am quite confident that a majority of those hired have the generic and unoriginal ability to complain and whine like most of us.... so what's a little cultural awareness?

While Snarge and his friends live in the 80s, they're out of touch with the fact that a lot of the LCAL pilots were not around back then and only know Cal as the airline of Gordon and Greg.

What you don't realize is how the 83 loss still permeates today... yet you think everything is normal or ok. Management rubs the money in your face that you should have, yet you think you make great money with your Work Hard Fly Right mentality... which stands for FUPM: work me like a *****... just pay me...
Bethune was a bit of fresh air, but he still knew what he was doing.. getting the max productivity out of CAL pilots for the least amount of pay... If he could be thought of as a great CEO, and make believers out of the pilot cadre... even better...
While the UAL pilots would love a real CEO, they are smart enough not to trust them and codified what they wanted via work rules.
CAL 'c'apts are still on the phone calling multiple times asking when the hotel van is going to show up. The UAL guys laugh at that crap.
As stated earlier... the United union culture isn't all roses, but those guys won in 85 and it still shows today....

That being said, your quote is accurate. If somehow CALALPA would have prevailed it would have been a much different story over the last 30 years. Now, with less than 500 CAL scabs left and more leaving every month this is finally slowly going away.

Back to the hire possibilities...anyone else close to this timeline?
Applied in July through airline apps
10 LORs (5 internal/5 external)
Military EP/IP with 3460 TT, >3000 Turbine, 3K PIC
Avail Date 1 Oct
No call yet, and while I know it's only been 2 months, I've seen some with much shorter timelines. Do they normally wait until the avail date to even consider? Just wondering, because from the reads in this thread, it looks like I've still got some time on the bench...
Thanks!

Sweet Jesus, keep this thread a discussion of Newhire pertinent topics and
keep your union bashing, CAL vs UAL garbage somewhere else. History is just that. Let's focus on the future and getting as many of these good dudes hired ASAP, the more the merrier beneath me.

We are being told here in the schoolhouse that the training pipeline is about to get much more full. Not sure the exact ratio of furloughed UAL vs Newhire, but sounds like a lot of new hires. Heck, we were told on Day 1 that new hires would stop end of July. Just saw a class start with a bunch of them.
