Another United Sham?

I worked in Guangzhou for 1 year. I lived in one of the original expat areas. Close to a longtime landmark called The Garden Hotel. When the president goes to Guangzhou, this is where he stays.

On the first floor there are a bunch of ultra-high end retail outlets, with of course, no customers. Along with these retail outlets there is a ticket office - for United Airlines. Also with no customers. Ever. It is staffed by 2-3 locals, open rarely, and when it is open, has no customers. I used to walk by it almost every day. Usually more than once.

We don't fly to GZ. We almost did a while back, but I believe we never started the service. Thank god we have a super expensive ticket office there, just in case we decide to fly there.

Yes, it generally was. Now it has 2005-hire 756 captains. Remarkable how unpredictable this industry is. As the saying goes, a pilot doesn't know until the day of his retirement whether he worked for the right airline or not.

Again.....here we go with the Ual vs. Cal junk. And again, I have flown on both sides, get over it! ORD vs IAH , Batman vs Superman. Shut it! There are some differences in the way the two companies have been run, ie. the "cultures," but all in all, we are all airline pilots, and professionals. I have flown with the good, the bad,and the ugly (sorry bag o doghnuts, scary Mary, and Corbus......need I go on?) on both sides. And, I have flown with the guys that I want to pattern myself after as a captain on both sides. All of the ****ing contests over which side was the savior of the other and which side was in more financial trouble than the other and which hubs suck it and which don't are just a waste of time and energy. We can either move on with our lives and work towards a better future for us all , (and yes that unfortunately means a better future for Jeff, Glenn , Pete, et. al.) Or we can just fight each other til the death and end up like USAir / America West. I am personally sick of it. You fighters can bash me, but I am a lover , and ready to move on . As far as the thread goes.......why wouldn't we try to save money as a corporation? We ALL try to pay the least amount of taxes possible for ourselves don't we? Gov't is greedy , isn't it? I agree with those who said if Illinois pushes this too far, we leave for greener pastures, but I find it actually appealing that our company would try to save money , and not at the expense of the employees for a change!

Which is misleading.

All the combined growth of UAL/CAL was put on the CAL side by new CAL management. So 40% of the pilot group was given a false trajectory of growth.

Also, that in a super large and undesirable base, where there are also a few hundred FOs who are staying FOs instead of upgrading to capt because it isn't that great to commute to CAL reserve.

So the UAL side has all the CAPs are senior to the FOs and the CAL side is a hodgepodge mixture with CAP going junior while other FOs (lots of 90 hires still FOs by choice) stay in the right seat.

We had 3 year CAPs as well, and it turned out, they stayed junior for a long time. Which is likely of what a 2005 hire 757 CAP is going to be.

Which just means that if ALL the pilot bid their strict seniority, a 757 Cap would be an early 90s hire (same as UAL), and not venture down into the bottom half of the list. So "every 2005 hire and before" can't really be a 757 Cap because there would be no FOs on any airplanes.
