CAL/UAL calls for street hiring
So I keep hearing recruitment will need to fill Jan/Feb through May classes with street hires since it appears the UAL furloughees are still playing the wait and see game on coming back.
Any ideas when street calls will start? Interviews?

After you have been furloughed twice, moved base 4 times endured pay cuts and equipment freezes. Many of us have another life, some even have a better one.
I have another 7 years to think about it. I'm taking my time before I up root everything again for a company that will dump me again in a heartbeat.

Well, yes do you blame us?

Nope don't blame you at all... However the regionals aren't so great either. Here is to hoping that the merger at CAL/UAL and new contract will give a reason to return.
In the meantime I hope my phone rings

How do you have 7 years to decide? Don't they call down the furlough list and then back up... With the second call being your final decision?

Nope they call you once you ether except or not. They will not call you again. You have 10 years for recall you just call them and tell them you want in if there is an opening if you go past 10 years go by good night turn out the lights game over.

I'm pretty certain that you have to be in a class NLT 10 years from your furlough date. For example, I was furloughed Jan '09 so I have to be in a class NLT Jan '19. It could be considered a gamble to wait until the last possible month to accept recall, but if there are no classes available, then you will be removed from the seniority list.
On a slightly different note, I am reading that some are concerned that the new "off the street" new-hires will lament at the bottom of the seniority list because of the furloughed pilots accepting recall. This is my opinion only and I claim no expertise other than that I am furloughed and know of several other furloughees. However, there are 1436 furloughed UAL pilots and I would be very surprised if more than a thousand pilots went back. So, the aforementioned concern of new-hires stuck at the bottom of the list may be somewhat allayed because there will not be as many pilots returning and at the rate some are anticipating.
I will continue to watch from the sidelines. The next hurdle is the ISL. They should just send it to arbitration. Another UAL pilot on the UAL forum said it best. "Both merger committees should walk in the room, drink a cup of copy, declare an impasse, and send it right to arbitration!"
Good luck to all.

Wow. That sounds like a sweet deal... Except for the initial furlough part.
