You see a flight leaving earlier. To take that earlier flight you contractually must call scheduling now and ASK for permission at which point they can keep you 3 hours, until 1900, or reassign you. That's the contract that has been voted in. Sounds like reserve to me.
I realize we are not under contract 02. However if you are kept until 1900 it's because you weren't supposed to DH until later, possibly the next day. So, you are not really being kept passed what you were scheduled, correct? Also, I don't think they'll build a lot of these when they get themselves together on the new contract as they'd have to pay you 5 hours for the next day.

Again, when you're on a trip, they can reassign you any time they want.

Are my assumptions correct? I'm not defending the contract, however, the chances they have a plane for you to operate that would get you back by your original time would be slim. I just don't see this being a factor very often. Definitely something to keep a count of though for future negotiations.

Well hopefully not. I guess since it's a new item it's hard to say whether it will be a non issue, a small irritant, or a major complaint.

I agree with you on that. Kind of like PBS at CAL. "It's supposed to do this/that." Pile of crap.

PBS can't fix lousy work rules. It works just great at UAL. Much better than the old system of bidding pre-built lines, none of which were exactly what anybody wanted.

It works great for laxpilot, there are other pilots don't like it at all.

There are other pilots who aren't going to like anything. The old system was TERRIBLE compared to PBS. If we left PBS and went back to the old system there would be major uproar.

Bottom line is that no system will make you senior if you aren't, and if you are junior, you get what's left over.

I think some guys thought PBS would fix their "problem" which was that they upgraded as soon as they could hold a line on a new jet, and now they are realizing that no matter how they slice it, they get leftovers.

PBS for me works AWESOMELY. 1) I understand it. 2) I take the time to figure out my weightings. I get exactly what I want every month, and couldn't have before the old way. No I'm not #1 in my seat.

Here's the best analogy. Lets say you are 10 from the bottom. Which would you rather do?

1) Pick one of 10 pre-built lines?
2) Build your line from 50 open pairings?

This is hard to refute....

And YES, if your work rules suck, line building is going to suck no matter which system you use.

You guys have ABSOLUTELY been sold a $hit sandwich and think it tastes good.

How's your vacation override these days?

No I didn't say all pilots but yes there are pilots at ual that don't like pbs, yes some are senior and yes some are junior. Sorry laxpilot but some of us don't like that you seem to think you are speaking for all ual pilots, you are not. If you like pbs great good for you.

Because I understand it. The guys that tell me they don't like it can't explain what they don't like. They just don't understand it.

And vacation override was going away anyway the way we used to bid it. Overall it ends up in a wash.
