Field Standby
#11
Don't forget the "new" portion for lineholders as well. You can be given a Field Standby assignment as one of the reassignment features of this contract. Excellent, just when you thought you were off reserve get your ass to the airport and sit around.

WIth PTC, you are getting paid your line value. If you lose a trip, then yes, they can reassign you to a period of FSB (4 hours) that reports at the scheduled departure time of the trip you lost. IOW, 4 hours of field standby in exchange for your 20hr 4-day, or whatever you lost, for which you are getting paid.

Current s-UAL contract Field Stby is worth 5 hours per day hard time.
they used to build lines of just field stby and the local senior guys used to bid these. Never flew a single trip while on field standby. I used to bring a good book to OPS, dressed in civilian clothing and kept the monkey suit in the car just in case. Got paid 90 hours for 18 days of FSB and was home every day.
I agree that the JCBA screwed this up for us. I am still a NO!

Pure short call line = MPG of 76.3 hours.
If they convert you to FSB for all 18 days and never give you an assignment, you will receive 16 hours of add pay (18-2=16)
Total pay for month equals 92.3 hours.

OBJECTION: LEADING THE WITNESS
They do NOT use FSB "all the time". They used it all the time back in the mid to late 90's. Now it's quite rare to get FSB. It's usually a holiday thing that they use in categories where they are fat on reserves. Why? Because in 4 hours, they lose you for the day. They would rather have you on the hook for 15 hours, and know you are getting to the airport within 3 hours or so then have you close by and only get you for 4 hours.

Yep, just like all those L-UAL folks who have no idea that we still have 1436 furloughees. Just because it is not your personal experience does not negate the reality for many....
