In short, contract 2000 was a one time deal, never to be repeated again.

Who said I wasn't living? The point is, the majority of the pilots were on the same page.

With this contract, leg by leg pay protection could get very expensive for the company without a motivated pilot group. In the past one bad flight overage would get "absorbed" into the pay credit for the trip. Not now.
