We called it the "tri jet". I flew all three seats on it and it was a great airplane.

Very lucky! I never was fortunate enough to fly one.... one of my favorites though!

Bumping this thread rather than start a new one...

Just curious, given this story:
http://http://www.washingtonpost.com...y.html?hpid=z1
If anyone in the know can comment on UAL's future at Dulles. I know there was also an independent report out recently that suggested UAL close the Dulles hub. The goal for us has been to retire to NoVa and hopefully work my way to being based at IAD. Just trying to manage expectations. Thanks for any info!

That link seems to be broken. But as an aside - Dulles has been up and down for United. 20 years ago or so, they built it up big, then they kind of forgot about it and then they started supporting it again. With that in mind, I'd like to repeat a warning I got as a new-hire aimed at commuters: "never decide to move to a place just because UAL has a lot of flights that go in and out because as soon as you move there, the flights will disappear" or words to that effect.

FWIW, at the Efficiency class, word was that network planning folks at HQ don't like the overlap with EWR. Again, FWIW.

Here's an interesting chart that give a snapshot of where the flying was in October.

https://public.tableausoftware.com/s...splay_count=no

To get base info, click a base and select "keep only". Kinda cool.

Great! I guess they're going to start shifting some flying from EWR to IAD soon.

Tough call on that one. Obviously NY is the place to be, but DC is the capitol, with lots of government traffic to some small towns like London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Zurich, etc.

So the question becomes: can UCH utilize a large HUB in IAD or does it simply need an afternoon bank for 15-20 connecting markets to help feed the evening international departures to Europe (like AA in JFK)?

The IAD hub made sense for pre-merger UAL but with EWR in the mix I could see it going either way.

Question is.... do Gov workers get to buy/sit biz or first class on trips? I'm sure at some level they do, but I know for the DOD it is forbidden in all but the most extreme circumstances, and when you get to the level that would get that perk, they have their own "private" transpo options.
