New Pay Scale

Otto,
For grins lets say you are the number one guppy or bus co-pilot on the planet and would love to upgrade. Meanwhile there are a few dozen Captains with no other life sucking up every minute of open time available. I'm not talking about the guy who drops a crappy two day for a more productive one. I'm talking about Mister "Fly Me To Max per FARs, and to hell with rest and anything besides these cool stripes on my shoulders"
They can easily postpone your upgrade for years. So, not only are you denied a pretty sweet raise and the chance to be Ace Bignotti, you're also denied a nice chunk of cash in your B/C fund. A chunk which over time, could easily amount to quite a sum if reasonably invested.
I have flown with some of these guys and they're just beat and going through the motions. Me, I'd rather be alert and well rested.
How about just receiving the great pay AND time off we deserve? Does your neighbors car sit in his office parking lot for 350 hours per month? I see no reason why any line holder should have to put in more than 15 days per month to receive 84-87 hours pay. They can schedule us to fly, or they can schedule us to sit. At $2.05 per hour, I'd rather be in the air.
I also see no reason why anyone flying a NB Boeing / Airbus product should not receive enough in those 84-87 hours pay to be able afford the lifestyle that most professionals across the USA enjoy. Please don't sell yourself, your education, your ATP and your responsibility so cheaply.

Yuuuuuuup! ESPECIALLY the last sentence! I love how Flibs keeps spouting out how we are the biggest airline with the best products, newest technology ...blah blah blah..so WE should BE the best paid and have the best work rules to go along with his statements...nobody else can do what we can do, and if they could, they too would be asking for what we are asking!

Oh yea, all the time. What really killed me was when I was furloughed at cal, it is allowable for a capt. to sit right seat for time and a half! So when people poke fun at the scab culture here, I totally understand why! This is just one more thing to be changed in the new contract...someday!

Unfortunately our blank-page contract encourages this by prorating days off during a vacation month. Prorating days off? Wow. You've got to be pretty wacked to vote for a contract that takes away non-vacation days off during a vacation month so that the only value of vacation is to guarantee a 7-day stretch of days off while you work nearly the same work as on a non vacation month. Pilots who don't sell back their vacation accomplish the same thing anyway by the back door by waiving the entire credit of the vacation and working a full line in spite of it.

I don't see why I get flamed so bad for supporting a contract valued at the same as the Delta contract. We can either make the same pay rates as they have at Delta and get the same crappy scope (bad idea), or we can take slightly less on the pay rates and get better scope (70 seat limit). I vote for option #2.
Delta is our biggest competitor and our contract should be in line with theirs. These proposed rates are better than American and US Air, our next two biggest legacy competitors. Pay rates don't matter if you don't have a job. You may loose your job if scope is relaxed even further, or if the company is so uncompetitive that it needs to cut "to become profitable."
