CAL poolies & Off-the-street hiring rumors

If past precedent is any factor, we are going to have a bid like that every month, so seeing 20-30 vacant isn't unusual and we are going to have to hire to cover those retirements.

At what point will it be determined if classes will be filled for 2014 with returning pilots?
Thanks!

Impossible to tell how many furloughees will take the jobs at CAL, but the new contract makes it much more lucrative to do so for most guys.
As I understand it, a furloughee can request the next available class whenever he desires.

The only deadline for furloughees that I am aware of is 10 years from furlough date, when they lose their recall rights.

I just think not as many furloughs are going to flood back right now regardless. Could be totally wrong though of course.
I think most furloughs and bottom of the list pilots were not happy about this contract at all. I think a "wait and see" approach might be a majority rather than quitting whatever jobs they have to run back. The next few months will tell, as they need to fill Feb-May classes .... I am sure pilots are already emailing CV if they want to come back because of the contract.

The implementation schedule of the CBA let's the company slide through another summer at minimal staffing. Reserve rules and rules for reassignment put flexibility in the hands of the company (that requires add pay in most cases) further reducing staffing requirements. The real crunch in staffing will come in adopting the rules required by FAR 117 which don't need to be in place until the end of 2013. 2014 should see hiring in small numbers.
The company will have more flexibility in fleet employment with the possible introduction of 76 seat RJ's in 2014 which will further reduce the need for mainline pilots.
Pilots looking to retire early probably won't leave until after they receive their final lump sum payment that will occur some time after SLI implementation.
Please take a look at 2nd and 3rd year FO pay on the CRJ-900, EMB-190, and EMB-195. This is the new B scale. UCH will not be a good place to be if these types of RJ's are added to the fleet at the expense of 757's, 737-700 and A319's currently doing domestic flying.
UCH is not a good place to work if you are looking to enjoy being at work. You fly your trip, go home and pretend not to think about work when you are home, then go to your second job or small business to make ends meet/live a middle class lifestyle.
If I were looking to move to a different airline I would keep my options open. I'm making more now than I was five years ago at a regional, but not much. Be prepared for that.
