Thumbs up Some info for the hopeful

FWIW, I bumped in to CV a week ago and this is what was passed to me from him: nothing is happening until the JCBA is voted in, (I mean on but we all know it will be voted in). That said, at that time the “guess” is that it will take 6 months to SLI. The other “guess” is that based on past %age (50% of 1400 total accepting a recall for the better rates and approx 500 already accepting), this would leave another 200 saying “yes I’ll come back.” At 50/month that takes us Feb, Mar, Apr, May (classes already booked thru Jan)…and you’re now at SLI. Then no longer job offer to CAL b/c CAL no longer exists so begins the true recall…which will take a few months to go thru all the holdouts/mil defer…so if it’s true 200 say “yes, I’ll come back,” then there will be little to no “off the street hiring.” HOWEVER, I truly don’t believe very many more are going to come back to the “job offer” let alone recall as many have been beat up enough in this industry…maybe 100 more but I still doubt that as well. I think with the “hey update your stuff” email, things have changed in a week and I think you’ll be hearing from them soon. If you are the lucking first few…please pass on all gouge to those behind you b/c this is gonna be a brand new program. Good luck!

Kc135flyr, when you said HOWEVER, was what you typed after that CV's opinion or yours?

IMHO, there are plenty of reasons to vote YES or NO as one sees fit but fear of the TPA is not one of them.
The TPA didn't allow for Pierce to negotiate a side deal with the company either. I simply don't see a way for L-UAL pilots to be trained in time to fly the 737-900ER by August without this TA passing. With the company and Pierce both working to ensure a place for those airplanes to fly, I feel the risk is certainly worth considering. Just my opinion.

That's my opinion given what guys who have come back said about buddies from their original classes back at UAL...most said their buddies have moved on...others on mil leave most likely have orders for the whole FY so that puts them out at least until next October. That said, my true gut feeling is that they'll be calling people in the next few weeks(early 2013 time frame).

I agree with KC... if people have a job, why take a risk into the unknown for a seniority number that you already have? Not many more will come back, especially right away.

Has any info been given on what the off the street interview might look like? I hear that it is a "all new process" but what does that mean? Any insight would be helpful like tests, sim eval, TMAAT questions etc.

Thanks

From what CV said there will be a sim eval, the interview is trying to be like the FED X interview and I have no idea what that is.

The problem I have with your statement is that we are entering a potentially very nasty legal situation with the TPA. Based on what I've read from the MC, our lawyers don't believe that the TPA will necessarily stand up AT ALL since we have "reached a TA". This was addressed in a communique. I'm sure we would argue that NONE of the TPA should expire, and the company will argue that ALL of the TPA should expire. Whose side will the CAL pilots support? My concern is that Jay Pierce ignored the TPA once already by negotiating outside of the required tri-party negotiations. We have grieved the issue, with no results as of yet. It becomes very difficult to win when you are on the bottom side of a 2 vs 1 argument.

Our lawyers have publically expressed doubt that they could make it stick based on their intent when they negotiated it in the first place. I can post the exact wording of that memo if you'd like. No one knows for sure what will happen in March if the TA is voted down. And I couldn't agree with you less that the risks involved shouldn't be evaluated by each pilot as part of his/her due dillegence
