CAL poolies & Off-the-street hiring rumors
#181
No previous poolies (CAL or UAL) have received a class date. The letters are for re-interviews for those previously in a pool.

Yes that is what I meant - thanks. How many UAL poolies have been contacted for re-interviews at CAL? If there are any, did you have a class date in 2008? For that matter, did all CAL poolies get a re-interview email regardless of if they had a class date in 2008?

In addition to my email from CV, I just received FedEx letter from Continental with exactly the same offer from CV.
I suspect, that CV will contact all of you who don't have application via online system, using FedEx letter. Look for FedEx letter at your door today. Tailwinds everyone!

There are 37 LCAL and 41LUAL poolies 78 total,
that had class dates that were cancelled.
Those 78 received the letter.. they will be getting preferential interviews. Before they start off the street interviewing.
Then there are 44 LUAL poolies that got the 2008 letter saying they successfully completed interview etc. but didn't have class date assigned yet.
They have to cut the line somewhere.. and thats where it looks to go from apples to oranges.
The 44 UAL poolie oranges are on their radar, they know they exist. But they aren't on Charlies list, and don't get a 2nd interview. They don't get preferential new interview. Have to reapply, starting from scratch, and he suggested updating quarterly. Those 44 were obviously competitive before, and they know who they are. so hopefully will get a shot towards the front "of the wave" with the interns, professional organizations and others on their short list to give good look at.

it is accurate.
Were you in LCAL pool? it might be different for you guys.
But for LUAL:
pool class date cancelled = letter.
no class date assigned yet = no letter.

I wonder if UAL ALPA could help out the UAL guys who are in this position? Seems like they should get and interview as well? 44 guys/gals that were successful in the UAL process.

I think it would be wise to keep communication on the personal level with new UA at this time. After all, you are applying to UA and have to satisfy UA requirements, ALPA just happens to be a rep. of UA pilots that are already employed by UA.
Just an opinion.

If I may? Similar situation existed in NWA prior to DAL merger. I had a friend, who was a check airman in regional airline, passed NWA interview just prior to merger, did not get a class - sounds familiar? After merger, DAL was hiring off the street for a brief moment; ALPA got involved asking about NWA successful pilots candidates pool. After pressure from ALPA, DAL setup preferential re-interviews extended to NWA pilot candidates. After about 5 days from interview, he and many others from NWA pool (he had contact with) received FedEx letters with: Thank you for your interest in DAL; however, you do not meet new DAL requirements at this time.
