How do you go about cutting $315 million while giving raises? Bankruptcy logic at its finest.

I suspect you don't work as a pilot. A contract is made up of many aspects. In the case of American they want each pilot to work more thus reducing the headcount or total number of pilots. That is huge. In addition they want to freeze the main retirement plan and replace it with a cheaper option. The pay raise is only on some equipment with a new low cost pay scale for other equipment. Its easy to give a raise and cut costs. Details, Details!

I work as a pilot without much of a contract.

Default JNC Update 08-16-2012

JNC UPDATE

The JNC and management have been meeting in Chicago to develop the final language necessary to produce a tentative JCBA for consideration by both MECs. Additionally, both parties are resolving a handful of open issues not specifically addressed by the conceptual agreement reached in last month’s mediated sessions in Washington, D.C. This combined process is typical at the end of contract negotiations; however, it is significantly complicated by the combination of two dissimilar pre-existing contracts from before the merger, and the resulting depth, interrelatedness and sheer number of 400 or so items in the Agreement in Principle which affect the language of nearly every section. Your JNC is committed to completing this process as expeditiously as possible, but with the thoroughness and attention to detail required to produce an acceptable tentative agreement. We will be updating both MECs of the progress of these efforts at special MEC meetings scheduled for Aug. 28 and 29.

As always, please stay connected to the process by reading updates from the MEC and your local council representatives.

Phil Otis was one of only three UAL-MEC members to vote "No" on the 2003 bankruptcy contract, he was not afraid to take it to the judge. If the MEC had listened to him, who knows, maybe there would not have been further concessions in 2005 and negotiations could have started upon exit from BK, at a time when the managers were paying themselves handsomely for hosing the employees.

Otis was the MEC member who asked the question, "is the EB170 included as an allowable feeder aircraft?" the response by the MEC Chairman was, it was not. Subsequently, the EB170 was given away by the same MEC Chairman when he recognized the company's oversight. Probably no smarter negotiator is available, he is very detailed driven. Expect it to take longer, but the language will be right when it is done.

Great. At least we'll use good language to give away our scope and retro.

Being that your position says MD88, and you say that you don't have much of a contract, my perception is that you are pretty clueless about your surroundings too.

I can't believe you didn't get a rules infraction warning for this. I would have gotten a "flame bait" warning from the moderators.

He can say MD88 if he wants to. He can reflect back on what he enjoyed doing....blah blah blah.

None of us have much of a contract. To argue with that would be fruitless indeed.

I think another strike vote would be a better demonstration of our resolve. Feel good motions of "confidence" are a waste of time. This is a union, not a glee club.
