Default USA Olympic Team

Any crew out there that have taken US athletes to London? Did they charter entire aircraft or simply place them on regular scheduled flights!
Go USA!!

Default Yup

I flew the USA women's Olympic beach volleyball team to London the week before the games. They were on a regular revenue flight in coach, although the gate agent upgraded as many as possible into business.

I'm sorry, you can't make this up.
Good to hear UAL carried her pole to the Olympics safely. Sure seems like Jeff likes to step on his quite often.

Watch: United and Team USA share the spotlight
Co-workers in several of our hub markets can tune in to local NBC Olympic coverage a half hour earlier Wednesday evening (6:30 p.m. CST), when Team USA pole vaulter Jenn Suhr is scheduled to be featured on the Olympic Zone show. She’ll talk about the key role United plays in safely carrying her pole to the Games in a segment filmed at ROC (Rochester, N.Y.).

The Rampone family is scheduled to be on the same show on Friday night in a segment filmed at EWR. Team USA soccer star and star mom Christie Rampone will talk about traveling around the world with her six-year-old daughter, who cheers for mom in the stands at nearly every match.

The co-workers in ROC and EWR join the thousands of co-workers across the system who are working together to ensure Team USA athletes have a great experience.

NOTE: These segments may not air at the indicated times or in a particular market due to NBC’s changing schedule.

To the OP:

During last night's coverage there was a commercial from United stating that they have proudly been the USA Olympic team's airline for 30 years.

Deadheaded on airbus from IAD-LAX this week. Sitting in exit row noticed the girl next to me was wearing a USA olympic team shirt. Flight attendant made PA announcement that "we have a 5 time gold medal olympian on board". Turns out she was the girl who won the gold for skeet shooting. Passenger sitting on other side of me actually made the comment, "why isn't she in 1st class?" At the gate in LA she took pictures with several passengers and let the little kids wear her gold medal. Total class act.

Yes, Kim Rohde has won Gold in skeet, FIVE games in a row. Only 4 or 5 other Olympians have done that. Upgrade?, please.

And she's only 33. And it's skeet shooting! Me thinks she'll be around for many olympics to come. Good for her.

Here's the response from United to Misty May:

"United
@united

@MistyMayTreanor Yes, that's our policy, but we offer daily club passes.
8:20pm Wed Aug 15 via Twitter for iPad"

Wow...and we wonder why we lose passengers. She's going to go on Leno or the Today show and tell that story.

I had A BUNCH of Medal Winners on my flight back from London the other day.
I found out that they weren't taken care of in London (Club Access) and a few had wait times in IAD before connecting onwards.
I sent an ACARS Msg to the company- telling them we had Gold Medal winners on board and please take care of them when we land with Club Access.

Response #1=
We know nothing about that.. can you please send us the names.
[My Response]
Aren't we the Official Airline of the US Team. How do you not know who's on the plane.

Response #2
We'll try to set something up with IAD Ops.

later on, we get another msg-
Shift change in IAD, need to call them on the ground and get Supervisor involved.

We call in range, and again on the ground..

Response#3
We don't know if we can do anything, an agent will meet the aircraft.

After some of the passengers (including Medal Winners) had already left the plane, the agent got the word over the radio that the Athlete's should go to the Desk in Baggage Claim and they would be able to have Club Access.

I'm getting more and more embarrassed about "my airline" every day. As a New Yorker who listens to O&A almost every day.. they have been slamming the "New United" for weeks now.

We truly suck.
