If our managers and supervisors fix this crap and take ownership of the problems then maybe I can admit who I work for. But, for now, just not saying the word "United" helps people forget who they are flying on. Maybe we should paint "easy jet" on the side or something to confuse people. Maybe that way they'll hate United less.

I had A BUNCH of Medal Winners on my flight back from London the other day.
I found out that they weren't taken care of in London (Club Access) and a few had wait times in IAD before connecting onwards.
I sent an ACARS Msg to the company- telling them we had Gold Medal winners on board and please take care of them when we land with Club Access.
Response #1=
We know nothing about that.. can you please send us the names.
[My Response]
Aren't we the Official Airline of the US Team. How do you not know who's on the plane.
Response #2
We'll try to set something up with IAD Ops.
later on, we get another msg-
Shift change in IAD, need to call them on the ground and get Supervisor involved.
We call in range, and again on the ground..
Response#3
We don't know if we can do anything, an agent will meet the aircraft.
After some of the passengers (including Medal Winners) had already left the plane, the agent got the word over the radio that the Athlete's should go to the Desk in Baggage Claim and they would be able to have Club Access.
I'm getting more and more embarrassed about "my airline" every day. As a New Yorker who listens to O&A almost every day.. they have been slamming the "New United" for weeks now.
We truly suck.

Here's the response from United to Misty May:
"United
@united
@MistyMayTreanor Yes, that's our policy, but we offer daily club passes.
8:20pm Wed Aug 15 via Twitter for iPad"
Wow...and we wonder why we lose passengers. She's going to go on Leno or the Today show and tell that story.

Then and Now
Thirteen years ago, when guys got hired at UAL, one thought: "It doesn't get any better than this!"
Now, those who remain think: "I wish I could find something better than this."
It's a shame, because I've flown with, and worked with, some really fine people there.
It's kind of like the Air Force: the Air Force used to be run by warriors who could pretend to be politicians.
Now, it's run by polititicians who pretend to be warriors.
The handling of the Olympic Athletes is embarrassing, regretable, and unfortunately, predictable.

Let's bring this full circle. Why such a big deal over athletes when we don't expect the airline to jump through its rear for a Marine E-5 traveling in civies with four deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq under his belt? I'm with everybody about what an embarrassment our company has become, but I also take issue with putting athletes before those risking their rears to keep ours safe.

^ I disagree.
As a CAL Pilot, I will say that under "CAL".. we had our share of problems like anyone else. That being said, we never ranked as low as we do now in many bad categories.
On top of that, I was never embarrassed to state that "I fly for Continental"
To date, I still don't say I "Fly for United". I'm still using the "Continental" name. Until I get a JCBA.
Of course, once that happens.. I will "be" a United pilot, but in name only. At my core, I will always be a Continental Pilot.
Hopefully, we will someday get a CEO and Management Team that-
Knows how to run an Airline
Wants to run an Airline

I believe the US Men's basketball team chartered a private airline which was NOT United to take them to London. After winning I heard that they went their separate ways and had their own private transportation arranged.
