Correct.... not only that, if you are ON sick leave right now you have to call the Flight Office today and "discuss your status".
First of all, who on sick list checks their UAL email? Second, I'm pretty sure that I am protected by federal law from having to discuss my illness with my employer. Anyone have a statute handy?
Last, with the schedules they are forcing right now, why are they surprised that people are getting sick? 4 on, 1 off, 6 on, 2 off, 4 on, 1 off, 5 on will make you sick... and tired. The only thing I haven't figured out is whether there will be 1 or 2 fatigue calls for me during that stretch.

Bo Ellis loves to play the good guy, friend of the line guy, one of us, ETC ETC.
He's just officially entered into the official worthless management POS category.
I was injured on the job back in February. When I called in sick I was informed by the crew desk that he needed to check with a supervisor before he could put me on SL. That didn't workout to well for him in the end.

The reverend gig is free my son. Universallifechurch.org They will respectfully review your application online and respond quickly. Usually takes about one pint while you are holed up in a London pub.

Dear Fellow Pilot:
The Company has reported an increase in pilot sick leave and resulting flight cancellations. I write to remind you that any improper use of sick leave would serve no positive purpose - not only because it endangers our union but also because it threatens our ability to achieve our central goal - the conclusion of a favorable joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA). If we go down this path we hand the Company the opportunity to be relieved of any pressure to resolve this negotiation quickly, and we risk significantly delaying the conclusion of a JCBA.
As you know, we are fully and completely focused on concluding a JCBA and have applied all of our resources to accomplishing this task. We have concluded that a meaningful deadline is the only way to push the parties to agreement, and we have been working in close coordination with ALPA National to obtain a release from the NMB to create the necessary pressure to bring about an agreement. But make no mistake: if the court finds that we have engaged in an improper sick out, or any other improper economic pressure activity, our ability to obtain a release or conclude a JCBA will be in serious jeopardy. The NMB has the power to delay a release, and the court has the power to forestall a pilot strike – even if the NMB releases the parties. Improper sick leave activity or other activity weakens our position in negotiations and makes it much more difficult to obtain a JCBA.
Simply stated, improper use of sick leave or decisions that impact operations in order to pressure the Company threaten everything we have been trying to accomplish in recent months. Any such activity must stop. Instead, we must continue to behave just as we have done for the past four years. Continue to do your jobs with the professionalism each of you has demonstrated for so long.
To repeat: if you are not sick, go to work, behave professionally and together we will achieve the JCBA we deserve.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

This needs to be looked into.....with the way our schedules are formulated, a major increase in red eye flying, then back out the same afternoon, limited days off between trips and days off in general ...no SMIZEK wonder we are all getting sick and fatigued. Add the stress of negotiations, or lack there of, and there ya go...staff this joint properly and this would be a non-issue....FUPM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny.............but I had a DH to PDX the other day on an Airbus with no APU. It took almost thirty minutes to get an air start cart to the plane.............meanwhile we were all frying and sweating like pigs in the back of the plane. Then we're supposed to get a great days sleep for the redeye back that night......................... Our redeye plane was over an hour late, and trying to call ops several times to find out what was going on was unsuccessful. Note to management: You can't run a company with exhausted and overworked employees! Haven't these brain surgeons figured that out yet? In the military we had "safety down days" when this stuff happened so they could figure out how to make things better. Here we get "threatened". Amazing.................
