Default Time to mandatory recall or resignation

I know a lot of us on furlough have tried to figure out "how much longer?" From what I understand, it is expected that everybody will be offered a CAL job by September, though estimates have been wrong before. My question is a little different: At what point in time is it supposed that pilots toward the bottom of the UAL list will have to decide between recall and resignation? I have friends at Airways who give accounts of short periods between going through the list the first and second time, but I'm curious what anybody thinks about U. If I'm missing something, I apologize. I'm trying to figure out what kind of timeframe I have in other avenues, especially if we don't get longevity pay for furlough. I've searched the threads, but not found anything. Thanks.

There is no mandatory recall. Ual pilots on furlough have 10 year recall rights. The company will call once. if the furloughee bypasses, the company will not call again. From then on, It is up to the furloghee to inform the company that they want to return - subject to the 10 year limit

Don't believe that is correct. With respect to the CO "new hire" offer you can bypass and later throw your name in the hat if they are hiring. As a furloughed UA pilot I think you can bypass on the way down the recall list the first time. Second call is bottom up and you have to return or resign. (excluding Mil leave and pilots who have a contract that has to be completed)

That is absolutely incorrect. The furlough agreement has been revised since the previous (9-11 & BK) round of furloughs where the above was correct. A furloughed pilot may bypass for 10 years per the new (2008) furlough mitigation agreement.

6-c. A pilot who is furloughed shall be eligible to bypass recall for a period not to exceed 10 years from his furlough date, at which time his recall rights expire in accordance with Section 7-E of the basic agreement.

Of course, all of this assumes no further revisions with the JCBA or additional side letters.

Thanks for that cadetdrvr.

This ability is one among a myriad of reasons the CAL job has had an acceptance rate of 20%.

The question now becomes if indeed the UAL side needs people (unlikely) what will happen on the CAL side. My bet is no recalls till significant retirees, and as far as more 757 parking at UAL that is on hold it seems.

You are correct. I thought Voluntary and invol were different under that agreement.

Thanks. I had heard both, but obviously needed to nail it down. Hopefully the option of remaining at a more lucrative job for a while remains long enough for me to save enough money to go back.
