Unfortunately I can't post attachments here, but the letter to Moak is out. Maybe somebody here will also get a copy soon, or can help me figger out how to post a .pdf attachment. Either way, it is great news and will be out thru official channels later today in a blastmail.

Anyway, for those that can read it, IMO I sensed some reluctance in his (Pierce) tone, especially in the closing paragraph. I don't know for sure but it seems like the CAL MEC had to push him into going along with the UAL MEC strategy.
Whether or not that is true, really doesn't matter. I, for one, say good on the CAL MEC.

Re: JCBA Mediation with Continental/United
Dear Captain Moak:
As you know, negotiations for a JCBA have continued long past the time when they should have concluded . In an effort to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion, the two MECs, with the support of the NMB, have agreed with the Company to an expedited schedule of intense mediation between now and midJune.
The Continental pilots remain committed to this process. However, in the event our efforts do not produce the terms for a JCBA, we need to be prepared for the next logical stage to ensure that these negotiations are completed. Given that the NMB must take certain deliberate actions before it issues a proffer of arbitration, including consideration of the ongoing state of negotiations, it is necessary to take the first step.
Accordingly, in the judgment of the Continental MEC, it is time to move the negotiations forward with a request for a release from mediation.
Our only additional request is that, if you agree to submit a request for a release, you make clear our continued commitment to the expedited, intense mediation ahead of us. It is our sincere hope that we complete the terms for a JCBA without the necessity for NMB action, but we must be prepared in any case.

With this letter there is no doubt that JP is working for the company and trying to maintain his position of "King of the CAL MEC". Thumbs-Up for the CAL MEC for pushing this forward. This letter is an good example of why JP needs to be RECALLED. What do you say CAL PILOTS and CAL MEC? JP hedged his position - are you?

We all know it is mgt that is stalling but it's ALL politics in DC so you gotta play the game. Good luck getting a release 6 months before an election, we are all hoping UCAL hits a home run.
BTW, where is that guy that was claiming that Moak wasn't going to support the release request? Tool.

If you don't display the intent to "negotiate in good faith" the way to the end, the NMB will not hesitate to park you or deny the request..
