UCH's Payroll department

I think the company has been telling people to scratch off the "full payment" statement on the letter and writing in your monthly repayment rate.
There is a discussion of this problem on the other forum.

Well then it comes down to ethics. If I owe you $5 bucks and hand you a $20 by mistake, are you going to laugh and walk away? Or are you going to hand it back to me and say " hey, that's a 20 not a 5".
If you can maintain your ethics through rough times then your an adult. If not, then, well go ahead and slam me for even mentioning it. You'll figure it out one day.

I don't see this as an ethical issue at all. You may or may not have been overpaid. I wouldn't take the company's word for it. I would ask ALPA to audit the pay - system wide to determine if the company is right.
Also, they paid you the money, and likely you started using it to pay bills right away. It may take some time to re-budget the giving of the money back. Ethics has nothing to do with timing and your family budget.
UCH is the one who inconvenienced you, you shouldn't be affected by their mis-management of the payrole system. You can ethically give them back one dollar per pay period if the mistake is real. After all, you've already given them an interest free loan on your earnings and retirement over the last 10 years. They can "ethically" wait, while you minimize inconvenience and you "ethically" re-pay at the pace in which does not harm your family budget.

Using your example, the company handed the pilot a 20 instead of a 5, and then came back and said I gave you 30.
Pilots are looking for a verifiable amount backed up by solid data, and not trusting the payroll department to get it right, after having gotten everything wrong for the last 6 months.

First I would like to say that you cannot use the words "United Pilot" and "Overpaid" in the same sentence. Second, I think it is insulting to insinuate that an "overpaid" employee is unethical by not sending the money back ASAP.
I think I will send my negotiating team over to WHQ and they can spend the next 24 months discussing whether it gets paid back by payroll deduction or I send them a check. They can spend the next year after that discussing how fast it gets paid back.
The amount they overpaid me was ironically about the same amount they shorted me with the PS. If they want it back they are going to have to take it. That is how they are dealing with us regarding the contract.
