Fair enough. I too would rather have had it be a United front. I'm speculating, but reading between the lines, I don't think JP was ready to pull the trigger for a variety of reasons. I'm not sure when, if ever, he would have been. IF that was the case (again, just guessing) I'm thinking JH felt it necessary to make the first move. I know it put the CAL Pilots in an awkward spot, and I am definitely thankful for the response. Hopefully this move is in EVERYONES best interest.

My impression of the time leading up to this was that there was a growing rift of satisfaction with how things were progressing. JP and the Negotiating committee were putting out communique saying talks were progressing well. JH was seeing it differently, with management continuing to fail to deliver on even the simplest of promises. My personal opinion was that there were no results, just talk, and it was time to make management put their money where their mouths were blabbing. I would much preferred if JP had agreed with that up front, but I was unwilling to wait any longer for him to come to that conclusion.

In any event, hopefully we can all move forward together. There have been negotiating tactics on both sides that were less than ideal. With the giant step forward last week, those all seem irrelevant now as my attention if firmly focused forward.

Let's get it ON!!!!!!!
Every UAL pilot that I have talked to fully supports this action. Most of them are saying it's about time.
As for not having a joint statement...maybe the CAL MEC and JP should reconsider their boycott of the scheduled joint MEC meetings.

Only place seen it so far is beginning of this thread.

If the company is having second thoughts on the R&I section and retracting then that could also imply they gotten anywhere with compensation or scope.

As usual we have very little fact and much speculation.
A few points:

1. This is coming from the frends of phred. The way he communiates is not nececarilly out in the open. He uses a select group of Peoples Express and some NY Air buddies. Recently he's added Stivala, Muir, and Gustitus and now the new junior FO's in the office.

2. He's gotta say something. In order to have a peaceful summer he needs everyone to believe that we will have a deal. Sort of like the Star Wars "Jedi Mind Trick." These are not the droids you are looking for.....Well, if he can trick us into believing a deal is eminent, then he gets his bonuses for keeping the peace and for delivering labor stability.

3. He has a history of negotiating directly with the pilots. He has leaked previous turns on negotiations (directly) from his office to his over 60 buddies in the training department, which directly undermind the instructor's bargaining strategy. He has indirectly leaked things at other times in order to affect Jeffey's/Uncle Larry's will.

Hog

Can you elaborate on this?

First I've heard of it.

If we get released and picket, I may actually have to buy a hat.

Maybe we have more views in common than first met my eye.

Got a spare if you need it. I don't know what size but you can cut a few slots if needed. I think I have an old F/O hat or two as well for anyone else who needs one.
