Also, I'm toward the bottom of the United batch so if CAL starts doing real new hires off the street, that would be better for me.
That's assuming a class size of 20.
As far as the summer classes of 4, I don't see them being that small. Keep in mind that class sizes were supposed to be 12. They've expanded to 20. And the last class was supposed to be in March. We now have 2 April classes, a 1 May class, and current plans for 4/class every month.
I think that they'll end up going with something like 12/class once a month for the summer instead of 4/class.

Another thing to consider is that if you're offered a class that starts after in June, you won't be off of IOE until September so it won't be as bad as it is during the summer. I would imagine that the next busy period after that will be Thanksgiving +/- a week.

I agree that it would be better to suck it up a bit and be on property to vote on a JCBA.

Are you at the Springhill or Doubletree? I spent a night in IAH last week and the van driver said they had a lot of new guys in the area. That has got to get old if you are there for 8 weeks.

I'm at the Doubletree. The other choice is the airport Marriott, which is between terminal B and C. The Doubletree is the better of the two choices because there are more places to eat in the area.
They try to put as many people as possible in the Doubletree.

No matter where the hotel is, it's going to get old while going through training.

Come to think of it...it was the airport Marriott driver that told me the new guys were staying there. We had checked in there and then found out the pool was closed for repairs. He drove us over to the Spring Hill. The airport marriott is nice...stayed there a few times before the furlough...but definately not ideal for 8 weeks.

Just stay away from the cookies at the Doubletree.

LOL! I've gotten cookies twice so far. At checkin and the other time I was at the desk for something and got caught up in a pack of people at the desk wanting cookies. Being a pilot, it's almost impossible to turn down free stuff.

Will you see Charlie tomorrow? I think the deadline for response from the last batch of letters was on the 12th. I'm curious to hear a few more data points on who is going to class and when the next round of letters may go out.

As UAL "new hires" at CAL, will we be dropping the coin for hotels during training?

I've never known of pilots having to pay for their hotel for initial training.

Shows you haven't been in this business that long. It was common up till the 90s to pay for their digs until you graduated from new-hire school.

My buddy and I rented a furnished apartment for three months and we were their best renters (says something about the neighborhood).

If I'm not mistaken, DAL new hires pilots (as recent as a few years ago on their/DAL last hiring wave) were having to "foot the bill" for lodging during initial training.

Confirm??
