Cut the guy some slack. He is a CAL guy that got thrown under the bus while trying to get us to play nice.
Since you are talking about the bond money. If the numbers had been recalculated on 65 instead of 60 those guys would have gotten more. Maybe we should drop it and be thankful they didn't

Not available. Don't hear well anyway. Would probably be embarrassed.
OK...that is unfortunate...truly. I've flown with two who are thrilled about the job offer and the ability to go back to work flying an airplane. I'm truly glad things are starting to work out for them. But, what's your point? Is a pilot who isn't furloughed supposed to feel worse because he's not?
I was 57 and had been a captain for 12 years when the law went into effect. I am quite thankful for the opportunity and fully understand the 5-year "flat-spot" for FO's.
It is what it is. If the law allowed, with remaining good health and the cognitive ability to pass checkrides, I would go further if given the opportunity and under the personal, financial and seniority parameters I described.
I would recommend that to anybody under my same conditions.
I do not dislike this job.
However, the original post was about a small sandbox with too many first graders. We are meandering...at least I am...probably a function of age 61.

You seem like a likeable person. However, I'd just like to refine some of your oberservations, if I may. As far as those "thrilled" with the chance to fly again, I concur. However, the opportunity to be low man on the totem pole at CAL is a bitter pill for most...even if it is just to make sure the supply of Ramen noodles keeps the family kicking (yes, I know they return at their previous pay at UAL, but the folks coming back these days got hammered by C2003, so it's not a windfall). Second, 'the "flat spot" you describe is more like a pothole in the road...a very unpleasent reality imposed by a Congress who was in bed with interests groups, including the cAPTAIN intrest group extrodinare...ALPA. The pothole was a bit more severe for the 1437...more like a cliff. We are currently sratching our way back from the abyss to resurrect our fractured careers.
As I said, you seem like a nice guy, but I just wanted to once again provide the "Paul Harvey" version and note that some did not weather the storm quite so well. Blue skies.

I don't have a problem with someone playing the system to their advantage .. Near the top of the seniority list, get an extra 5 years to milk it, no worries. I AM a little perturbed that the bond allotment was based on everybody retiring at 60 .. Whatever "stovepipe" ALPA considered you in just got extended by 5 years. Some older guys (gonna have to retire in 1 year) got 5 times the bond issue of those of us with 15 years to go. Meh, enjoy your windfall, and here's to a quick passage to the next 4 years so we can see you out the door .
There is always a justifiable reason why one is able to benefit at the expense of others. Ever heard that excuse before?
