That's an often asked question with an easy answer...excellent health through good genes, good exercise and good eating, debt-free (no mortgages or otherwise), financially liquid, quite senior (PBS works very well for me), 17 days off average per month, live in base.
The job is quite nice under those conditions. Tiring at times, but very nice. I like it. I would also rather work than not.
I'm also a "half-full" guy. Much better way of moving down the entire path of one's life.

No need to apologize.

65's the law now. No need to beat him up.
He's not gloating about it like cccaptain doucheman did on the UAL/CAL forum. cccaptain doucheman's a LUAL pilot.
If you look at LUAL's retirement numbers since age 65 passed, we've averaged ~1 retirement per month, per monthly SSC reports.

You do recognize, though, the age 60 guys that weren't as fortunate as you guys that did make the cutoff. You get to go to 65 and enjoy all you described above because they HAD to leave at 60.

Not available. Don't hear well anyway. Would probably be embarrassed.
OK...that is unfortunate...truly. I've flown with two who are thrilled about the job offer and the ability to go back to work flying an airplane. I'm truly glad things are starting to work out for them. But, what's your point? Is a pilot who isn't furloughed supposed to feel worse because he's not?
I was 57 and had been a captain for 12 years when the law went into effect. I am quite thankful for the opportunity and fully understand the 5-year "flat-spot" for FO's.
It is what it is. If the law allowed, with remaining good health and the cognitive ability to pass checkrides, I would go further if given the opportunity and under the personal, financial and seniority parameters I described.
I would recommend that to anybody under my same conditions.
I do not dislike this job.
However, the original post was about a small sandbox with too many first graders. We are meandering...at least I am...probably a function of age 61.

I don't have a problem with someone playing the system to their advantage .. Near the top of the seniority list, get an extra 5 years to milk it, no worries. I AM a little perturbed that the bond allotment was based on everybody retiring at 60 .. Whatever "stovepipe" ALPA considered you in just got extended by 5 years. Some older guys (gonna have to retire in 1 year) got 5 times the bond issue of those of us with 15 years to go. Meh, enjoy your windfall, and here's to a quick passage to the next 4 years so we can see you out the door .
Since you are talking about the bond money. If the numbers had been recalculated on 65 instead of 60 those guys would have gotten more. Maybe we should drop it and be thankful they didn't
