That must be why I enjoyed it so much, I always wanted to be an astronaut.

I've said that it looks like they could cut out the "seat" portion of that "jumpseat" to leave a square open-top bracket/cage. Then two rollerboard bags could probably stand up next to each other in the space instead of having to lay them flat and try to make them fit. I don't even bother on the -500, but at least the NGs seem to sit a little higher.

Larger cockpits like the Bus are the only way to go. You can even fit more bags in a Super 80 cockpit than in a 73. Quit talking about eliminating jumpseats...

The rumor I heard was more 90 seaters possible from our friends in Brazil. But I also read somewhere AMR has considered Russian 90 seaters, so don't leave those out either.

Hey with the "new" standard of training the Russian jets will work perfectly. ;(

It already is eliminated. It's just a metal plate with no cusion or seat belt or O2. Either make it a jumpseat or get rid of it!

+1 on that!
If the CAL NG's second Jumpseat are 'non-existant' to begin with, then there's nothing to "quit" talking about in the arena of elimination.....just wasted space.

Exactly! Though it would undermine my request to the negotiating committee that they secure a side letter in this contract stating the company agrees to fully install/equip the second jumpseat on all the 737NGs. For a company that operates so thin on pilots and needs every body it has, they sure don't make it any easier for a commuter to get to work. (Not debating the merits of commuting just making an observation.)

So my original suggestion above is only good if they can't secure such a commitment from the company during negotiations.

Hear that! The term "*******, or get off the pot" comes to mind.

If we don't get that item resolved on this JCBA, the company needs to remove the 'metal jungle-gym', save the weight, and make more room for the crew bags.

I know I know......how dare anyone present 'logic'.

-1!! It's like asking an ant to accommodate an elephant? Ok, maybe an over exaggeration but you get the picture. At the moment Boeing has very little ideas on how to make the cockpit larger (a replacement aircraft) so Airbus has conveniently push them aside.

Sure they do!! Boeing says you have two options.....You get a fully completed 'second' JS, or you get nothing. The lighter solves the 'space issue', and could be a sales point for those wanting that.

Boeing can just not install the 'metal jungle-gym' (aka inert JS) on all NG's for companies not opting to have the seat fully installed (O2, belts, FAA certified seat cushion, ect) from the factory floor prior to delivery. Remove the space taking/twisted metal apparatus = More space. Use it, or loose it comes to mind.

According to CAL's former B787 fleet manager, the 'options' for the B787 were VERY minimal. They learned over the years catering to ALL different airlines/config's added a lot of engineering nightmares.....thus very little/'limited' options on their new toy that was delivered to ANA yesterday.
