Oh I got the message alright, but I'm still calling BS. I get what she's saying, but the Marvin Mainliners around here are going to continue to be Marvin Mainliners. Those of us that stick up for our contract are going to continue to stick up for it. And those FO's that JR Man into my trips are still going to get to watch me practice my landings for 4 days. I get the veiled "between the line message", and I get why it's being delivered this way. Doesn't matter though, because the company will still take us right back to court, as evidenced by the recent announcement that the CAL pilots are having a "sickout" because of a few cancelled flights.
My point is this. Stop sending me messages about how angry you are at the company. Stop sending me messages about how frustrated you are. Don't bother telling me to not wear my hat, or defend my contract. MOST of us do all those things. Get this deal DONE. Did anyone ask her if we are actively trying to be released from mediation? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that one. The SPC should be meeting 24/7 preparing for us to walk out at the earliest opportunity. Let the Marvin's scab. There aren't enough of them to matter. I'll be happy to do even MORE landings on those trips that I fly with one of them. From what I understand, Wendy doesn't want to be released. If that question was asked, and she answered it, and I'm wrong, then somebody please PM me what she said. Strike fund ready. Contract defended. As they say in The Right Stuff: "I'm cooler than you, now fix your little problem and let's LIGHT THIS CANDLE".

The other part of the conversation that I had was that Wendy does not want to actively seek release yet for several reasons, one of which is that "American has been in longer, they need to go first". Another was that we are not prepared for a strike. Now I don't know how much of this is accurate or not. I don't even know if Wendy was asked point blank if she would give a straight answer or not, but my point is that with the injunction we have, and the management we have, all the "mentoring" in the world isn't going to do squat. Even if this mentoring campaign was wildly successful in getting the Marvin's to fall in line, our reward would probably be a trip to court with the company showing charts and graphs supporting their claim of a "work to rule" campaign.
If I were king, I'd be putting my eggs in the release basket. A day wouldn't go by where I wouldn't be reminding the mediator that UAL management claimed we would have a contract last October (? can't remember the exact date). They were guns blazing to get this deal done... right up until the DOJ approved the merger, with nary an UAL-ALPA pilot on the hill lobbying. Now, they are passing CONCESSIONS from a Bankruptcy contract. I would have the strike committee in full swing 24/7. I would make it very clear that we are serious in negotiating a realistic contract, but the company is not. Co-worker Jeff got his mighty fast!
This tactic might be a miserable failure, but it's the message I'd be on early and often. I don't get the impression that Wendy is of like mind. Blaming the pilots for a lack of leverage because we have some Marvin's who need "mentoring" is hardly an accurate assessment of the temperature of the pilot group in my opinion.

I have no argument for anything you wrote. In fact, I agree with it 100%.
Getting released is key...but we still need people onboard. I know that we have lots that won't be there with the team if they feel they have an "out."

Agreed in full. It IS time to get the Marvin Mainliners to stop thinking only about themselves.
