Is there a Cost of Living Allowance for Guam?
Read somewhere that Guam based pilots get a 3K a month stipend due to cost of living. Is that accurate?
Also, all furloughees ahead of us middle of the pack Aug00 hires feel free to bypass this first class. I'll gladly hop on the Guam Grenade as that'll put us about 20hrs closer to our house in P.I. and make my lil island girl 'oh so berry happy, honeyko'.

As a single....are the local pickings kinda slim? Are the local gals cute? Because of the military, I figure, (like Hawaii) there may be a lot more guys than gals.
IF the local scene is not good, are most of the singles traveling to the PI?....maybe Thailand?
Any input would be appreciated.

Well then, so what is all the hoopla about if one is single? Somebody is selling a bill of goods......GREAT if you're single, my a$$. Sounds like you still gotta get on a jet to get laid....What's so freaking awesome about that?
Geez, well I'll pass the info on to my buddies. Tell them that Guam actually sucks for singles and to not even think about it.
Thanks for the honesty even if it was TIC.

1. Pilots staffed to flying Positions in the Guam Base will receive, in addition to
all other compensation, a Foreign Base Allowance in the amount of one
thousand, one hundred dollars ($1,100.00) per month for each month of Active
Service.
2. A pilot assigned or awarded a flying Position in the Guam Base will become
eligible for the Foreign Base Allowance when he is initially staffed in Guam
and will cease being eligible on the date on which he is permanently staffed
elsewhere.
3. At his option, a pilot assigned to Guam who is in his first year of employment
will receive an eighteen (18) month Base freeze and be paid using the secondyear
pay rate (in Status), or no Base freeze and be paid using the first-year pay
rate. The monthly advance for a first-year pilot electing to receive the freeze
and the second-year pay rate will be fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00).

An American Airline has a Guam base?........Really? F that.
You mean to tell me that we can't schedule crews through that part of the earth to cover that flying? Anyone in management with intelligence could.
Sounds like modified cabotage to me. That, and employee abuse. I have spent enough of my life trying to make a career out of this job, only to have been furloughed twice. This is what our career has come to? Being an American based in Guam? Rediculous. What is this WWII? I know this is quite the rant, and expect a lot of razzing, so, let it begin..........

I love it!
Maybe YOU can tell why some on this board and the UAL board say that Guam is such a great place if one is single. Again, except for semi easy access to Asia, what's the big deal?
Come on, don't be shy....inquiring minds wanna know.
