Some random guy called me Carl a few months ago, and now everyone says I don't pay union dues. So let me be clear.
My name is not Carl.
I'm not even sure who Carl is.
I do pay my union dues.
As for who I am, I will not give out my name on a public message board. I'm 6'6". That ought to narrow it down pretty good if anyone really wants to know who I am.

Scabs are required to pay union dues too.

FedEx and UPS are not in the same industry as us. They are cargo airlines. Their revenue is tied to an entirely different source. Their competition is completely different. I can't just start Joe Blow Cargo with a few airplanes and expect to make money. There are major barriers to entry in the cargo industry, and very little barriers of entry in the airline industry. Like it or not, there is a ton more competition in the passenger airline industry, which is why we cannot ask for large salaries. We have to be competitive, or we loose are jobs.
I believe our industry is our similar peers (Delta, American, and US Air). You could make an argument for Southwest, but the realities of their industry (low cost passenger airlines) is different than ours.

We carry passengers.. people's lives are in our hands, they carry boxes. Iahflyr, I'm going to give you some constructive criticism..."stop talking". Management of UniCal just gave themselves a 40% raise...give it a rest that they don't have money. Second, we stay competitive with our service from our employees and marketing plan. UniCal should be attacking the Asian/Middle East market and if the employees are happy, the airline will be happy(Look at Southwest). Third, jobs are lost through SCOPE...period! They get outsourced to the lowest bidder...but it seems in your eyes, low pay is fine. GIVE ME A BREAK. We are professional pilots and will be paid accordingly, if you can't wrap your management brain around it, I'm sorry for you. By the way, I'm 5' 8 3/4".

On the Southwest side, how should a "low cost" carrier pilot make less than whatever you think we are. Seriously, you appear to be a complete management sycophant. Sh!t, 2nd year SWA F/O's make more than 12 year F/O's at UAL, and 8 year F/O's at SWA make more than 20+ year Captains on the 320 at UAl. This is acceptable to you? Are you f$%#&ng kidding me? Lunacy.

they fly airplanes for a living - so do you. In fact, you fly the same sized airplanes. Ufb.

Dude, put down the crack pipe and learn a few things from history and the pilots who went before us and made this profession what it WAS when most of us put it in our sights.
"we loose are jobs"....are you saying we lose our jobs? I completely disagree.
Have you looked at the profitability of "are" (our) airline? 5B in ancillary revenues alone and 9B in the bank. They FIRE guys in management and give them millions to get lost! (John Tague 11.8 million). This company is a cash cow and WE are the ones who are directly responsible for moving tens of thousands of people daily all around the globe. We have licenses that cost tens of thousands of dollars to obtain AFTER and IN ADDITION to college degrees and / or significant military service. It takes most guys years of service in either the MIL or the CIV aviation world to obtain the minimum requirements to even fill out the damn application.
We fly multi-million dollar equipment in an extremely challenging and ever changing highly regulated environment. We do shift work, don't have retirement, and lose our ability to work with just a simple afib or other relatively minor health ailment. We work weekends, holidays and fly on the back side of the clock.
Whiskey Tango Fox!!???? (Can't believe that this site won't allow me to type ***) My buddies daughter just graduated from GA Tech with a BS and her starting salary is 86K!!! Why do you sell yourself so short? Your perspective or your worth is so assbackward that it astounds me.
You're a piece of work dude. I hope that you are in the EXTREME minority at CAL.
Never mind.....this is pointless....
James is off to self medicate.
