Junior Manning Winners
Would just like to thank the junior manning winners who are accepting money
in return for enabling the company to not bring furloughs back and believe they
have people who will help them out of any mismanagement or shortage situation.
Like the shortage that might happen if we're ever released from mediation.
Maybe there is a computer glitch, but their schedules seem to be inaccessible.
Now why would that be?

If you are talking about the CAL side, management is not going to bring on board any new (i.e. furloughed) pilots this year no matter what. Their intent is to get through another summer WAAAAY understaffed this time and make it to the fall draw down in flying.
They will make it work by any means possible. There should never be a junior manning event EVER. Why are pilots answering their phones on a day off? Reassignments and roll days off are another thing though and with guys on the CAL side being rolled to work 8, 10, 13 days in a row now seems scheduling is making it work.

That was about the one thousand four hundred thirty seven pilots on the street at UAL and
the very special people who are accepting extra incentive pay to help themselves and the company
at other pilot's expense. Sound familiar to some people from the past at both airlines?

Are you talking about on the CAL side, the UAL side or both?

If they are doing it on the CAL side you can thank them for delaying your contract!

You know, we could have helped the cause back in 09 when the furlough mitigation negotiations were going on, by lowering the cap to either 80 hours and/or putting the JM provision in suspense. But instead, as I remember so vividly from one of the phone teleconference, our MEC would not consider it because they viewed it as "concessionary" and a financial burden on those who have gotten use to 95 hrs + a month.
Fast forward 2 years, and all of the leverage of a lowered cap is gone and the company has 1437 hostages which we have to supposedly give up something to release.
If we are really serious about a contract, have a strike fund, why did we not impose our on restrictions in the form of a reduced cap years ago.
My point is, we always lose against mgmt, unfortunately, because we are reactive, and see things from battle to battle, rather than looking across the years, forward and rearward and realize we are being played. The company hasn't changed and apparently we haven't yet either.
JM folks should be tarred and feathered right now.

They are JM in the EWR 756 base. They have been in BAD shape this week and last. For example, they have no reserves left tonight and there is an open trip to the UK with only 3 hours until check-in. The phone calls are going out..... Which little piggie is going to step up for some scraps?

They are doing it everywhere at UA, I saw that they were 3 short the other
day at a given dom/fleet/seat and presto, all filled by special people.
Special people with special me-me excuses and 5 inch bubbles of reality.
Hope the other crewmembers are recognizing how special their flying partners are.
Agreed. But don't think it's so much from lack of pilot foresight, but from ALPA's biases to support itself. (and our auto vote with the MEC)
ALPA has become it's own profit seeking corporation, afraid to do anything that will jeopardize its income.
They had to know much of what you said, but didn't want to lose the support of that faction of dues paying pilots.
We should have stood up in the BK, we should have stood up in relation to your example and we should have
held the MEC acct. for advising us incorrectly both times. Hmmm, let's see, what should we do with the next MEC "recommendation"?
Imho, they will recommend that which will minimize losses for ALPA, not that which is potentially best for the pilot group.
They would rather take the easy win vs. risk a strike vote and the huge ALPA losses which could result.
Personally, being released today would be the best course of action vs. this mgmt. team.
In the end, all we have is unity. It doesn't have to coincide with the recommendations of the MEC.
Frankly, this MEC looks to be getting handled by mgmt. again, partially due to the injunction, but no excuses there.
Their past behavior, along with partially having their hands tied with the lawsuit, leaves almost no choice regarding the first TA offer.
Vote no and hold this mgmt. team accountable for the theft they've been allowed to get away with.
Yeah, rant/soapbox/peace out.
