Agree 100%.
You might be right odds-wise, but imho we need to not put the cart before the horse.
Pilots have historically undershot and underprepared to go to battle with management.
How many guys are fully strike funded for six months? I'm liquid for a year.
We need to go in like it will be the worst case, and if it's not and is better
than doom and gloom, then great. But we shouldn't start with that lighter presumption,
even if the odds favor it, because people then can't afford the odds failing.
(strike breaking by mgmt. or shutting the airline down)

Topgun, sounds like you are a frustrated ex-pilot ****ed off that you didn't make CA at 31 over at UAL. Hey, if you went out on your own and made it big good for you, but this forum is for pilots trying to get it back from mgt. So how about you mind your own business and move on.....
Guess again ace. I was your standard 34 year old new hire at UAL that would have been happy to have some semblance of a career rather than being shown the door after 5 years. No dreams of captain by 29 as you allude to pal, just was looking for a place to hang my hat and progress up the ranks like everyone else. But that didn't happen. You hit the nail on the head when you said you are one of the FEW trying to make a difference. This forum is indeed about getting something back. Good luck. My comments are not extreme. I was given plenty of information at the council meetings I attended as an ALPA member. Their predictions have mostly come true. As I said, good luck.

In the post you are referring to you made it sound like you moved on by choice say for greener pastures, and that us pilots sticking around for the abuse are a bunch of idiots. Hey, what happened to this industry after 9/11/01 and to labor in general in this country is criminal.
And this goes for most of American business, ship it overseas, cut benefits, cut wages/salaries, while profits grow. So again, good luck, burn the damn place down if you have to, fight like you mean it. I could not and would not work for scumbags like that. I moved on, we'll all know in 25 years what the right move was when we look back.

I vote for topgun as MEC chairman. I feel your pain bro, as a two time furloughed loser, I am equally disgusted at the way labor has been treated in this country. Outsource to the cheapest.......not to make the company more profitable, but to make the corporate fat cats richer. Airlines are what we are familiar with, but it is and has been happening everywhere. Unfortunately, unions are going the way of pensions and dinosaurs. What a shame. I guess I have to outsource myself and go fly in China.

All the contract requires is a 24 hour break. Yes there have been pilots on duty and/or trips for 10-13 days in a row because of those nice 24-hour outstation breaks. The company only has to TRY to give you the break in domicile domestically.

Alaska's reserve
2 Types of reserve lines
Long Call-
-75 hour min guarantee
-11 hour call out
-Contactable 24 hours a day on reserve days (you go into rest once notified of trip)
-Company only has to build min. of 10% of lines per base, per seat as long call.
-If long call lines not bid the company will not assign
-First to be assigned if able (ahead of a short call)
-You can pick up open trips the day before if they match your number of days on reserve
-The company can convert you to short call up to 4 days per month. Must pay you 2 hours for the first conversion and 1 hour for each conversion thereafter. Pay is above guarantee.
Short Call-
-2 hour call out
-79 hour guarantee
-Many different lines of 15 hour long zones of contactability, depending on base and staffing needs. 3am, 4am, 6am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, 5pm. The reserve lines are built with all the same zones throughout the month for any given reserve line. Scheduling cannot change the zone you were awarded for the month as a short call. If you are a LC they can convert you to short call up to 4 days per month and they will assign the zone.
All lines are built with 12 days off. One block of 5 days off, one 3 day off block and 2-2 day off blocks.
Long calls fly the most, sometimes even breaking guarantee. Short call depends on the base, zone and staffing. Last month there were a few LA short call pilots that never flew.
