Sounds like they will use the iPad for Type I, Class A applications. No RD (rapid decompression) testing needed.
Google FSIMS, and then search for EFBs. Explains it...

Only took three years! Now what about Jepps!

"Effective immediately, flight paper packages (e.g., flight plan, release, weather, NOTAMs, etc.) may now be downloaded and viewed via the iPad during flight operations. The next FOM revision will include this authorization. The following provisions and limitations apply to this paperless option: "

Read the instructions. Could they make it more complicated? Just put it in iBooks.

Uh....so how exactly are we supposed to keep those little rectangular paper weights from bouncing around the cockpit? 757's have no means to restrain them--or charge them since we are prohibited from using the power outlet in the cockpit. 12 1/2 hrs CDG-SFO??

Interesting, because the company is looking at dumping the iPad for a Windows based tablet because they believe we will be able to do more with it.

We have been authorized to charge them in the cockpit for awhile now...

And required to have a cable and Apple charger for this purpose according to an FOM change on Oct 25.

Sometimes I'm denser than I seem at first meeting. I don't think we can in UAL 757's. In fact just a few months ago, we got another missive, can't use that plug for anything.

There is still no method to lock it down, and no way to charge it in LUA 757/767's. Might be different in other fleets or CO side.

However I do have a bag of carrots to hang in front of the cart with the donkey...
