I hate seeing those salary ranges. They seem misleading because in my mind it leads one to believe that they could be making the top end of the salary in short course; where the truth is that the $93,400 is the ABSOLUTE TOP END perfect salary (based on current numbers) that you would ever see after MANY years on the job. The $93,400 is a GS-12 STEP 10 with 5% flight pay and 22% locality (which no where in Oregon is going to get I'm pretty sure). Even that starting pay is suspect. It is just a little below the GS-12 STEP 1 maxed out pay which seems strange considering most other gov't flying jobs top out in that range, much less start there.
I just bring this out because people need to have realistic expectations of the pay before they jump in with both fet blindly.

And don't count on a management team valuing your contribution...

As far as management not valuing your contribution; well I guess that depends on how high up the management team you are talking about. My immediate management (and up to two levels above) seems to be doing a fine job of making me feel apart of the team. So far....I've got no complaints.

It DID happen for some - though VERY momentarily those few weeks back that Short Bus mentions; but most felt that it wouldn't last too long of course and that back pay would be given if it did last any length of time. It was a surprise though I can vouch for that!

Depends on your office. I know some people who like their managers, others who don't. It varies by office and people. In my opinion, military types seem to deal with the position better. I am not used to how the Government is "run".
But, on the flip side, money, benefits, time off are good. I just got off probation today, and hopefully FG-13 pay is around the corner. (Another "bad"- there really is no traditional airline type of seniority/ longevity system)
They just posted positions in all areas...

Exactly - that is how it happened with us too.
Sounds like life
My office / community is heavily influenced by former military, so it has a lot of the same benefits (and problems) as the military, but I think overall a hard working and smart group of people who know their job inside out and are really good at getting the job done.
Well congrats on getting off probation! Tht is certainly one step in the right direction!
