You were not there...or perhaps not even out of High School, but section 1113 of the US bankruptcy code assured that the 70 seat scope was TAKEN, not given. It's just like Russian Roulette. You can't win. But if it makes you feel better about flying that barbie jet for half pay...just keep saying it.
Section 1113 of the US bankruptcy code has no bearing on the EMB-170's that were GIVEN away for nothing by the chairman of the UAL MEC. Without the waiver for the big EMB's I can't imagine Tilton could have scrapped the guppies.
Every MEC has a faction that takes the "I've got mine" approach but UA has perfected that approach more than any I've ever seen.

Threads like this make me realize why I never want to fly in the 121 world. Guys making $150k plus a year complaining about how they won't take a job for a regional, yet do nothing when they vote in the new contracts to fix it. The regionals are here guys, to stay. You can either be part of the solution, or part of the problem. Yeah, I get the whole paying dues thing for the up and commers. But give them a little help, next time you vote on a contract, take a little less for your self, and give the lower guys a little more (something livable).

If you are not working, take the job get the type rating and go to work. When you decide it really does suck, quit, at an outstation, at the same time all your other buds do at other outstations.
That maybe a little drastic, but I think going to the interview and asking for your old pay rate is spot on.

furlough,
I don't think your 17k/yr CRJ FO is too pleased about the situation either, I know being stuck at a regional for the better part of a decade was not my intention when I committed to an airline career.
The only ones "taking" anything are lying management snakes, and ALL airline pilots have been shafted by the way the profession has been decimated.

Bear, I agree. Probably not the right verbiage (and I'll change it). Because the old mindset was to get the Regional job as a stepping stone to the majors and all that included (higher pay, better schedule, etc). So really management has screwed us all, because that RJ job hasn't been a stepping stone, it's been a destination. So, one way or another, management got the best of us this time. The question is, how to play this game going forward? Whose got the gonads? ALPA, anyone home?
