Speaking of dropping trips. Anyone notice the activity or lack of activity for the Vice Chairman of Council 11? That is one way to avoid flying! Think I was alerted to it in the Gardener thread. He is a 320 F/O and has used ALPA drops to avoid flying so much he has had to go to TK for Landings class twice.
It is interesting to look at his calendar. That is the type of ALPA leadership I think we have all come to appreciate

ƥᴉᴤᴤing off passengers has nothing to do with negotiating a contract. Period.
"I got mine" doesn't play with me. That's a whine-line that doesn't hold water. What I got was hired before you, nothing more, nothing less. And seniority comes with a cost: you have to get old to get it. If I was an "I got mine" guy, why would I give two ⓢⓗⓘⓣⓢ about scope? But, I'm willing to walk a picket line for it, and for you even though there's nothing in it for me.
Perhaps you should shake yourself loose from your kitchen table bewilderment and maybe try to do something to make it better. That's what I did: I'm a member of the Strike Preparedness Committee.
I'm trying to help you and lots of other pilots, 85% of which are junior to me, get theirs. Does that sound like "I got mine" to you?

The phrases "Think strategically, act tactically" and "death by a million cuts" come to mind. If you're waiting for a grand march down Wacker Ave, I think you'll be disappointed. The political environment we're in will almost certainly prevent a large-scale action, and if not, it will be years late.

Well, good job. As I said, you're preparing for a non-event. I'd do something too, but during my first furlough, they took our non-rev benefits, so I would have had to pay for travel anywhere I went. Now that I have them, I'm last on the list (below your buddies who you give passes to), and I can't jumpseat. Anyway, I'm too busy making myself employable outside this ridiculous industry.
So what I do is warn people I know to avoid the industry (and especially this company) like a plague. That way, when the demand increases in a few years, the supply will be low, and it'll be the good ol days all over again.
You're welcome.

I am not talking about wrist bands or bag stickers. I am talking about taxi cabs at 30:01 after block in. I am talking self help for my accomodations when applicable. Both are in the contract. I am talking about a CONSERVATIVE stabilized approach. A comfortable pre-board cabin with apu air and fresh coffee available for the pax. Not answering my cell phone on layovers or sits and certainly not ever in the cockpit to talk to company. No job actions, just my job.

I do know what is in the contract and know what you are talking about with regards to the other items and hey thats great that you are doing what you can. I just continue to see others that junior man pick up whatever so until everyone is on board it won't have an impact at least in my opinion. But hey do what you can from your seat.
I also think that the few that got us into trouble legally have set us way back in this negotiations.

That might be what you are talking about now but when I commented it was channel 9, I know I added the wrist band comment.

Sorry, but Smisek doesn't give a rat's Ⓐⓢⓢ about CH 9, or what passengers say, or anything about flying. UAL is a business, pure and simple. Not an airline, per se.
ALPA is certainly not perfect, but it's a lot better at eventually securing a contract than any individual is. I'm waiting just like everyone else, but I'm not about to dump my emotional baggage on my passengers. How about this spin: the more profitable UAL is, the better our contract will be. Not a perfect concept, but better than chasing business out the door.

Will that happen? Who knows but angering customers who have choices lessens the odds that it won't. I'm sure everyone of you has seen CRS's/FA's being unpleasant or even rude in the course of your trips. Who doesn't shake their heads or cringe when you witness these displays? Don't we expect THEM to do their best for the customer? That expectation has been my experience from all I've worked with. Should you not hold that same standard?
In the day of instant Tweets/YouTube/FlyerTalk etc., what you guys do can be flamed out there long before your day is done.
Someone mentioned a few posts ago about a thoughtful conservative approach. Being under the radar is wisest.
