Get used to it. It's the central mentality of our new management team. They will almost always fly the smallest piece of equip they can and just add frequency if capacity issues arise. As a CAL guy I'm terrified of what Jeff would do to our domestic flying if he got to use the large lawn darts on us like Glenn did on you.

Where do you Get the idea IN FACT that The CAL Rolls Royce engines OR any other engine is Better or more efficient than the PW2040's,PW4056/60,PW7077's or Pw4094's that United Flies? Because I can sure as hell tell you FACTUALLY, You have NO IDEA what you're talking about (CAL got Rolls-Royce Powered 757's because that's what EASTERN was flying on THEIR 757's when they went OVER TO CAL under LORENZO. While UAL ordererd theirs NEW with the PW2037.)
CAL's 75's didn't come from Eastern. New order in Dec 1990, but thanks for playing...

The PW is not even in the league of the RB211.

strfyr51,

I'm not a CAL pilot and can only speak for the 757 Pratt vs Rolls part of your argument. I flew for ATA years ago and we operated B757's with both Pratt's and RB211's.

Rolls was lighter engine, produced more thrust and had a lower fuel burn. Obviously this gave us greater range, load and takeoff performance. We were always happier showing up to work and seeing an airframe with the RR's hanging on the wings.

Just the facts.

Just keep in mind that the UAL pilots are more ****ed about the Scope than you guys are. We are actually your allies in maintaining your Scope clause. If RJs existed during both trips through Chapter 11 at CAL I assure you you would be in similar shoes we are in today. We are actually on the same side in every aspect of the JCBA. Let's all keep that in mind.

In your words...."A$$bag", get used to it.

***Case in point***
LAX-HNL: B767-400 (2008)....B757-200 (2009)....B737-800 (2010-->)

See a trend here?? "CAL's Fleet Equipment Justification"....Jeff's habit's are alive and well for all to see....don't have to guess here about your above mentioned 'obsession'.

(Point in fact,, UAL will ALWAYS order Pratt over ANYBODY'S if given the choice or option! Also a point that GE knows very WELL in fact!)
What Route can the CAL 777's fly that UAL's CAN'T fly?? What Route can the CAL 757's or 767's fly that UAL's CAN'T fly?? One Idiot even claims that the UAL 777's are small engined "Ratty" airplanes. If that's REALLY so? Then We've fooled a Hell of a lot more people than Cal Has because We've flown SFO to ICN 13.5 hrs ONE WAY just fine. Where is your longerst route? And? When it comes time to FLY those "ratty" 747-400's,777-222,222ER's and 767-322's Are you going to say they're too OLD to fly? This' like "the Blind man Said ", "This I gotta SEE".
Whomever you are? You need to give the Old Ratty stuff a Break because
We Mantain our planes EVERY BIT as well as yours and the ONLY dofference is in the Cabins and UAL's are "Superior" in most EVERY way
Except for those Ord-Hawaii 777 "Cattle Cars" with 36F-312Y cabins.
Sorry to bust your bubble, but it is my understanding that CO looked at the Eastern 757s and determined that they were in too poor of condition, and that they were not worth the capitol to put them in an airworthy state. CO purchased their 757-200s new from Boeing. All with RR engines. The 757-300s, some new, some used, all with RR powerplants. An extremely profitable aircraft. I just flew a trip back from Mombai to EWR, 16 1/2 hours on a CO GE powered B777. CO has been run by bean counters for years, I guess there is a reason for particular aircraft and engine selection.

That pretty much sums up why Smisek and Co said the 400 was too big for the routes they fly. They would be unable to consistently generate the loads needed for a profit. Foreshadowing is what they call it.

When the grumbling's of the B767 downsizing to the B757 surfaced on that route (prior to it actually happening), the "Larry & Jeff Show" AKA "The CEO Exchange" was asked about that specially.....Their (or should I say Jeff took the question/answer that was posed specially to Larry at the time) answer to that was regardless of the loads, HNL was a "low yield" market. Outside of 'tour packages'/travel groups, the Hawaii flying was there to appease the "Freq Flyer" to burn his accumulated 'booty'/miles.

Since that time (2008-ish), I have read....still Googling to find it & post it....that the Hawaii Market's yield is not as 'low' as once perceived.

You would be correct.....Since Larry, and now Jeff....."Size" has been something of a 'conservative' slant.
