Try NOT spending "oodles of bread" in the cockpit and watch as your planes are restricted from RVSM, direct routing, etc. Usually the FAA REQUIRES the upgrades to keep us up with the Jones's. I think what's up front helps get what's in back to their destination, don't you think? BTW, we at CAL are sick and tired of seeing the gross amounts of money being spent upgrading the Business First cabins for people who DON'T PAY FOR IT..............

Well, they will have to be around for at least a few years. We are installing ADS-B ITP (In Trail Procedures) in a dozen of them to run a test bed in conjunction with the FAA. Only 1 has been "provisioned" so far, 2 more coming soon. They will begin to be fired up in May 2011. Also includes EFB.

Not sure where YOU'RE going but to say this. United hasn't been just following trends in equipment we SET the trends!! Thats why the
B767-200's that CAL flies and the B777's that we BOTH Fly have a Whole Bunch of UNITED "Lineage" in them. My statement was to say that if ANYWHERE we've lacked was in putting Money in the Passenger cabins with the latest in passenger amenities unlike American who spends a LOT of money where you can see it. Our flight decks are ALWAYS and have ALWAYS been Well appointed, (Better than most airlines for sure) We'll Spend the money making the operational upgrades, And the 737's we got Rid of were as nearly well appointed as the New generation 737's out today because we jumped ahead of the "Steam guage" cockpits and had our pilots flying cockpits that were the Latest in design. And when we finally park the 757's they'll go like Hotcakes because we fly Matched equipment where there's very little if ANY variation and where if I call for a Breaker to be cycled, that breaker and switch are Exactly where I say they are and are on EVERY airplane the SAME! Where 2 units of aileron or Rudder trim might very well get an airplane grounded for Re-rig where some airlines fly until they're looking out the opposite side window trimmed straight and Level. on a given heading. But none of these things are evident to passengers. But for sure Sattelite TV and Radio are, plush leather seat covers and classy color schemes. We're Not there yet, and to truly become a World class airline, We Should be there. I can understand you being concerned with your pockets because I AM with my "Ducket's" too. But it would Sure be nice to Do the outclassing in service and amenities than to BE outclassed as we have been for my 27 Years at United with the "Just Good Enough" mentality.

"But United didn't have the money to invest in that product. Well it does now."
Uh, Jeffey, United did have the money to upgrade it if they wanted to do that. Management chose not to. Choosing not to do something and not doing it because you don't have the money to it are two different things. Look at both airlines premerger cash balances and say that again with a straight face.
