EWRBased,

Don't misread the post.

The CEO at UAL has in the past viewed his paycheck as INVERSELY proportional to ours. The fact that the STARTING POINT was Delta plus one is not in keeping with our recent relationship with the UAL CEO.

No one is advocating accepting this. Rather, it is just the lowball offer the CEO is required to make to avoid appearing like someone who actually cares.

So, OUR CEO, in the spirit of "working together" was REQUIRED to make us a pathetic offer? This in turn costs the company a boatload of goodwill, and ticks off a LOT OF PEOPLE in the process. The major shareholds should be paying attention because this is NOT how a company makes money. Notice the share price lately? Tumbling like a rock..................... Welcome to the NEW UAL..........run like a poorly oiled machine.

I am somewhat offended on the management wannabe, never and dont ever want to be in management.

I have set on the other side of the table from them and if you can't step into their shoes and figure out what their planning, you're in trouble. They can't take back what they offered, my point being it's a good starting point for us, won't even be close to where we finish.

Think about this if your Smilton and he says OK my pilots are getting a 50% payraise and better work rules without any negotiations, chest thumping, PR statements, strike threats, going to mediator, i.e. Next, each employee group gets that also. What do you think wall street via the BOD is going to do to him. Happened to Jim Goodwin at UAL. A lot of what goes on is to make it look good and give cover to both sides.

Sorry about the remark, just being sarcastic............ So, if ticking off the employees and watching them cost the company money is considered "good management", then how is it that SWA can be so productive, pay their people well, and keep MOST of their people happy? Don't think their shareholders are objecting to how the company is run too much, although I'm SURE if their management made a lowball offer and ticked a major employee group off, it would certainly be brought to the shareholders attention in a minute.

I think your letting emotions into this, to them your a widget with a number. they would love to replace you with a cheaper widget.

As some professional negotiators have said to me before" we know about goodwill but we can't put a number on it, so it doesn't matter"( I know SWA is different).

You do realize the PR statement from UAL will be " UAL Pilot's offered an INDUSRTY LEADING PAYRAISE and they turned it down" just wait and when we finally have our contract you realize they will tell the other employee groups the pilots took all the money sorry none left for you.

Just part of being in the pilot group, I know where I live I make about 3 times the average income so no one will feel sorry when I say we took a 35-40% paycut so I deserve a giant raise.

Yep, you're probably right..............I guess I learned in the military that when you take care of people, they take care of you. Totally different in the civilian world where the motto is "I'll take as much as I can from you, so I can compensate myself with the savings!" I don't feel I make a horrible wage, but I don't think the CEO should be walking away with the bank every year either.

EWRBased,

I agree with you on the leadership versus management approach. It still makes me sick to think about it. I would however like to point out that there are some companies, and yes even airlines that do take care of their people. We just don't work for one...

Hope you enjoy the holiday season, and have a very successful New Year!

I wasnt in the military, only civilain 3 airlines all the same, started when I was 21 for first one. SWA sounds like the only one thats different really.

We dont make a horrible wage but I like to put it this way when talking to management or ALPA leadership. I fly a 767, 200 paxs give or take last accident that has gone thru the legal system was Comair in CVG the average death cost 6 million so the liability on each of my flights is over a billion dollar not including damage to others or aircraft. With that amount on the table and the money UAL is bringing in we are not being rewarded properly end of story.

Merry Xmas
